Why does MNHOCKEY need a large accounts?

After reading the MNHOCKEY minutes, why does the board need over
$600,000 in money market accounts?

I'd be worried if they didn't have a lot in reserve. Is money market the best place? Depends upon liquidity needs.

I'm assuming they have a Fiduciary Responsibility to not invest in anything which could be construed as risky. This was the case when I dealt with non-profit boards in the past.

nope you got it all wrong, it is to pay for all the blue pucks they got on order,to pay off the Mayo Clinic for a study they called fair play points,to hold seminar this year to instruct people that want to come and learn how to grow hockey at the youngest level{by the way it is in only one rinkfor a few hours}and then you got to remember the new order of stop patches coming.
If they have any more im sure they will come up with a way of throwing it away {Maybe bring back that one tourney site deal and they will pay ESPN or FOX to cover it}.
But just maybe they would think of lowering fees and putting something back to the communities that give them this, after all most of the money is theirs .
Opps cant do that that might bring more kids into the game , what a novel approach.

O Have you ever tried to work with them? might as well use super balls, it was, and still is a bad idea, if you could keep them lighter without the bounce it'd be fine.
Kids learned with a regular puck for years, they are trading off some skills for others.
Next we'll wonder why these kids don't keep their stick on the ice? it's because they're trying to catch bouncing pucks!

How many of those do you think are on the board of MN Hockey?

I'm sure it's not making anyone rich (at least I'd hope not), but I'll bet it would pay for a few hours of ice, or maybe a year with no registration fees...

I believe that if you are a member of a nonprofit organization in good standing you can request and should receive a copy of the financials.
But are we members, or are the association boards the members to MN hockey and we are members of the local association?

I can answer this one based on my research with the MN State Attorney General's office on another state non-profit athletic organization.

Individuals are considered members if they are part of association in good standing with the state organization and are current with their association fees.

They should be just putting their annual reports right on the web site and their monthly reports too but are fearful of too many financial questions that would take away from their hockey priorities.

Yeah. I didn't notice them bouncing too much. Maybe they are only appropriate for the youngest kids. At age 5 and 6 they can pass the puck further and have a much easier time shooting.

Our Mite program had the first practice last night. You'll be happy to know the coach had all black pucks. They shared ice with mini-Mites and they too had all black.

I can see them bouncing around and being hard to control when the kids are stronger.

Thanks for the explanation. I've seen posts where people complain, but never understood what the problem was.
