Little Falls... Flyers Or Puck Hogs ?

Post by zezima »

I recently attended hockey fest in alexandria last week, saw some fairly decent hockey, but one thing i was not impressed with was the amount of selfishness on the Little Falls team. first off that hanowski kid WOW! he had some amazing goals but i never once have seen him pass or backcheck! a little selfish dont you think! Izzak Berglund, great defense to offensivly minded, he skated coast to coast all day last suday when Hanowski didnt play, cost them a goal or two. and the Urbanski kid, good with the puck, great skater but has some issues with passing, he had a few nice goals but yet again no backchecking and made a few mistakes in the D zone. If little falls is planning on making it to the big dance next year, they better work on teamwork.

hanowski is going to have to carry that team, and will come close to triple digits in points, I wouldn't be worried about him

That's funny, in "all-star" situations he's known more as a playmaker than a shooter. I think sachishi4 has it right, Ben's probably feeling a little more pressure to carry his team this coming season, so you may see him shoot a bit more than normal.

It isn't uncommon for some HS stars to lack some effort at times or in certain aspects of the game. They can often afford to on that level. That is why they get pushed so much harder in junior hockey.... they can't get away with slacking on their defensive coverage on that level or they will get burned a lot.

Urbanski also has some issues upstairs, I beg you not to feed his ego.

I wouldn't put any stock in zezima's observation of Ben from the Hockeyfest in Alex....which is basically a fun, low level HS tourney vs. less skilled players (compared to Ben)...but anybody who has watched Ben play MN Select 15. 16 or 17, for Team USA in 2006, or in Elite League the past 2 years... knows he is one of the most un-selfish players you will ever find...and a great all-around player in all 3 zones.

Any particular reason these guys are playing with Little Falls this weekend in the Wal-Mart Hockey Cup High School Festival at the Super Rink?

I do agree it was lower level high school tournament. We will see this weekend when little falls takes on Elk River, I might even make the trip down there to see if my observation was correct!
Prediction: Little Falls Beats Elk River 8-2
Little Falls Looses To Mankato 7-5

first of all BEN HANOWSKI DOES NOT BACKCHECK!!!!! i do agree he is a very skilled player, great hands and vision. He's no Festler thats for shure, but im not saying he doesnt have the skill. Going back to my notes on the hockeyfest... Since you were all so keen to pick on me! Little Falls backup goalie lets in 6 goals in the first period. No one commented on that. Little Falls has more issues than just their offense situation. If berglund doesnt play it safe he will get burned alot more during this season, that urbanski kid, im sorry i do not know who he is and im sorry for aiding to his ego! but all i was saying is he was very talented as far as his style of hockey, look for him along with ben nelson, and riley hirsch, and berglund to lead this team during the Walmart Hockey Tournament in Blaine.

Urbanski is a JV player, nothing special at all. 3rd line at best. Before you talk about who will lead at the Blaine tourney, you may want to see who is going to be there. Maybe your boy Urbanski can be the big dog if no one esle is there.

One more thing zima, nice grammar: "I recently attended hockey fest in Alexandria last week". How long ago would it have to be to not be recent? Also, make a decision on Berglund, puck hog or leader?? Keep practicing on your little sisters keyboard, you will get better.

Why would anyone feel the need to comment on Little Falls' back up goalie giving up 6 goals?

Hanowski did not show this weekend... A little dissapointed, they did not take the Blaine tournament seriously. With a 3-2 win over a JV team, and a 5-1 loss against Mankato which they dominated last season at the consolation finals at the "Lucia Arena" A ball busting 7-3 win and now a 5-1 Loss... Berglund did not come to play As i mentioned earlier Hanowski did not show, that #10 nelson kid who is a puck mover did not show. The three stars of the tourny for little falls would have to be Waytashek, Berglund, and Hirsch i think thats who was on the roster. Yeah Riley Hirsch... I take back my comment on that Urbanski kid, Good hard shots, fast skater, but he does not play for the team he plays for himself... well i might make the trip back again... Heard good old little falls is playing their section rivals... Alec will put up a fight especially with Hemmingway as the backstop. Oh and another note, little falls put their backup goalie in today, the same one who let in 6 goals in the first period in alec. He needs to retake geometry because his angles are horrible.

Ben Hanowski didn't show because he is playing baseball for the Sobieski Ski's in region 8c amature baseball tournament.

So was Ben Nelson who was also playing baseball for Upsala in the Tournament and i'm sure Logan Kalis wasn't there either he was prolly playing baseball too. Bottom Line when its time to play hockey they will be there when its time to play baseball you can find them on the dirt and grass near Little Falls playing Amateur Baseball or Legion Baseball. So just drop it zezmia go watch baseball and wait for hockey season. :D

I think that LF will be adverage next year. If they're thinking of competing this upcoming year they need to find kids who can put the puck in the net. Ben hanowski is a great and gifted player but all in all, if he tries to do it himself they won't go anywhere. The selfish play needs to change from everyone and it's time for some of the kids to step up to the plate. They need to play as a team and start to put the puck in the net esspecialy after lossing hanowski sr. and sylvester. They just don't have the depth as they have the past few years so this years gunna be a eye opener if things don't change.

I think your wrong!
There are several good players staying that will make a good impact.
Don't judge them by what you see over the summer, come HS season they will be good!

I agree with ya Demon, let them play the baseball and wait for the hockey season. They will be more then ready, and Tony will make sure of that! Summer has been fun, but can't wait till the upcoming season

What depth? Last year at the state tourney when they played STA I coulda swore Ben and Beau would take minute breaks after being on the ice for five and then they were back again. LF has never had a ton of depth. They may have ok players on line two sometimes over the years but the team has pretty much been one line for many years. Its class A hockey. Not too many teams are more than one line. STA last year was probably the most depth from a class A team in a while.

zezima, Why do you keep bringing up Urbanski? the kid buries his head so bad when he skates it's not even funny. I think maybe you are Urbanski or something, because otherwise he should not be talked about 4th or 3rd line if anything. People please wait till the hockey season starts before judging. In the 2006 Hockeyfest tourny LF lost to Sartell in the chip like 6-2 and later that year in sections beat them 9-1.
