Mac, I haven't heard anything about your spring or summer hockey. Are you still doing it? My kid liked it but can you make smaller group sizes?DmanDad1980 wrote:HOCKEYPUCK2 wrote:Lets be real. And Mac, don't worry, you're doing just fine with the young girls you teach the game to each year, keep on coaching - it is much appreciated!![]()
I hope Austin does us proud tonight and this weekend!

Double the size and you'll have 10000 more senior citizens. How eazy kids are to coach is relative to their development in U8-U12. If they are taught that hockey is a team sport thats the way they will play. In all the years of watching AL girls play, IMHO, consistant team play has been a problem, from Miller to the current coaches, and in the developmental programs before high school. When they played as a team they played great. Hopefully they learned from this season and can bond into a team, the talent is there. As Herb Brooks said, I want the BEST team, not the best individuals.HOCKEYPUCK2 wrote:Lets be real. How hard is it to coach at MAYO? A constant flow of numbers. Both the Austin and Mayo coaches did a great job, their teams played like teams.
Congrats to Austin, fun game to watch. Good luck Friday. Hope to see you in the finals on Sat. Have to go, 89 came to visit!!!!!!!!!

just wanted to congratulate the pack on a good show at the state tourney.
taking names is right, they did lose to two teams, and pretty badly. but considering they lost 8 of us last season and came back to take a second section title and place higher in the state tournament.. all i can say is excellent job. you showed all of us just how much will and heart can accomplish.
i wish i could have seen you girls flying out on that ice..

Breck should be in AA. They are a private school (over $20,000 a year for tuition), and hand pick from over 40 players who they use. It is unfair to place them against public schools who struggle to make 3 lines. Alexandria is boderline school enrollment for AA as well. Roseau was just plain good. By the time the Austin girls played Roseau, they were already down mentally and had little chance. The Austin girl's heard nothing but negative from other players and this forum the whole time they were at State. Really sad, but like you say they played very well with what they had to work with. They will be back and much stronger each year as they mature. Your kind words will go far.taking names wrote:everyone already knows that austin lost big time against breck. And then lost again. But congrats to austin on a good season. At least they made it to state when no one expected them too. Sure proved everyone wrong.
You were sorely missed this year, and your support is appreciated more than you know.petomwendo wrote:just wanted to congratulate the pack on a good show at the state tourney.

Mayo is the team to beat in the Big 9, they haven't lost a Conference game in 4 or 5 years. I don't see any Big 9 team knocking off Mayo.what'smyname wrote:Hello Southern MN, any word on the teams in the area? Any guesses for the season? Haven't heard from you in a long time.[/list][/i]
Big 9 prediction
1. Mayo
2. West
3. Owatonna
4. Austin
5. Faribo
6. Winona
7. JM
8. AL
8. Century
10. East
Austin is the team to beat in the Section 1A, they haven't lost a 1A game in 2 seasons. Austin has the best coach in 1A, I think he proved that last year and they will be my #1 until somebody shows me they are not worthy. Good luck.
1A prediction
1. Austin
2. Faribo
3. Northfield
4. Albert Lea
5. Red Wing
6. Waseca
I am able to talk more freely. I am not as attached.
I agree with RSI on Mayo in the Big 9. The team to beat.
1. MAYO
2. MW ( can they ever Beat AL though)
3. AL
4. Owatonna
5. Austin
6. Faribault
7. JM
8. Winona
9. Century
10. ME
1A prediction, Austin does start on top, until they are beaten, but this is a prediction.....so
1. AL ( Upperclassmen)
2. Redwing ( my bracket buster, great defenseman, good coaching, young, with some experience now, good showing in last year's section tourney, play a lot of summer hockey, and played Austin closer than Faribault.....Ha Ha. Will that bring Falcons out of hiding?
3. Northfield ( goaltending)
4. Austin (Always surprises me though, get better throughout the year)
5. Faribault ( could surprise also, strong young players)
6. Waseca
I may want to adjust these after the next few weeks. I will get to look into some players eyes and see if there is any hunger.

Thus, I have AL in the bottom half. You play like you practice and since most things remain the same with the team, I expect much of the same as last season. Another season of very uninspired hockey with no sense of urgency!jetjock wrote: I may want to adjust these after the next few weeks. Ahh Jet, living in the past. This is about the future. By the way, we were never hiding. But I do believe another section 1A town is.jetjock wrote: and played Austin closer than Faribault.....Ha Ha. Will that bring Falcons out of hiding?
Big 9:
1. MW
2. owatonna
3. Mayo
4. Faribo

10. Mankato east

Austin is the top dog until proven otherwise. BEAT AUSTIN. **No more #12, thank the hockey gods. Oops, I almost was living in the past.
Going with the living in the past theme:
Teams, Seniors graduated, percentage of total team points
Albert Lea, 2, 5%
Austin, 3, 38 %
Faribault, 6, 51 %
Northfield, 1, 21 %
Redwing, 2, 27%
Waseca, 2 , 10 %
I understand that there is a lot more than points in a game and some seniors were defensemen and great role players, but it looks to me that Faribault and Austin lost the most and Albert Lea the least. So green machine, tell me about the future..........

As much as it pains me to say, I have to agree with that statement
http://www.womenssportsfoundation.org/C ... 0%20A.aspx
How is Title IX applied to athletics?
There are three basic parts of Title IX as it applies to athletics:
Participation: requires that women be provided an equitable opportunity to participate in sports as men (not necessarily the identical sports but an equal opportunity to play).
Scholarships: requires that female athletes receive athletic scholarship dollars proportional to their participation (e.g., if there are 100 male athletes/100 female athletes and a $200,000 scholarship budget, then the budget must be split $100,000 to men/$100,000 to women)
Other Benefits: requires equal treatment in the provision of (1) equipment and supplies, (2) scheduling of games and practice times, (3) travel and daily allowance, (4) access to tutoring, (5) coaching, (6) locker rooms, (7) practice and competitive facilities, (8) medical and training facilities and services, (9) publicity and promotions, (10) recruitment of student athletes, and (11) support services.
ALL IS WELL IN ALBERT LEA

RSI welcome to the dark side. It is good that you have come to my way of thinking, young falcon. You must be taking night classes in Faribault.RSI wrote:Welcome back falconsthe green machine wrote: Albert Lea has the talent, but, is always one big drama away from imploding.( as past history would dictate).![]()
As much as it pains me to say, I have to agree with that statementAlthough in the girl's defense, there was some pretty significant "drama" last season. The team had ZERO leadership, which started at the top with an assistant coach who seemed to enjoy creating the drama with her completely inappropriate and unprofessional behavior and a head coach with ZERO coaching experience (at any level, in any sport). Even further up the food chain you have an Athletic Director/Title IX Coordinator who thinks that Title IX is ONLY about the opportunity to participate in athletics.
Jet, what does the future behold? Faribault reloading. The strength of the youth program will now come into play.
RSI , when do you want me to make a UHAUL reservation for you?

Doesn't Austin have a very young team now with the 3 Seniors they lost?

I would not say young. They will be led by two Seniors, Catherine Wagner(#2 in state, in golf) and Kyli Elingson. Two very good players that are well seasoned. Then they have a supporting cast of 6-7 juniors and also 4 sophomores that have all played in many varsity games. Denny Bray, always has a way of getting the most out of his teams. If they have the desire, they will excel.what'smyname wrote: Doesn't Austin have a very young team now with the 3 Seniors they lost?
Remember one thing, the year before Austin lost 8 seniors, and still won the section.
