Region format

The district directors voted in favor of adding a third game o Sunday to the region format.

Sunday play will be (if accepted by the tournament committee and board)

Sunday morning
1 vs 1 winner to state as regin champ
2 vs 2 winner to play later in the day for chance at state.
loser gets 4th place trophy at regions

Sunday afternoon

loser of 1's vs winner of 2's for region runner-up and goes to state.
loser gets 3rd place trophy.

I believe this is what people wanted and the DD's agreed with you.

This format is much better. The added game won't somehow be played at the "X", will it?

This is better than what it was. It does mean that 2 teams will have to play 5 games in 3 days. That seems like an awful lot of hockey.

This format is better, but it still does not address what I think is the biggest flaw in the pool play format and that is that 3 teams can finish 2-1 in pool play and one of them goes home after Saturday (based on the point system). The double elimination format leaves no questions or excuses.

I agree with Les, but this is better than what was in place the last 2 years. Atleast a team that goes 3-0 gets another chance if they lose that Sunday game.

Was there any discussion about going back to the double elimination format? Also, what about district 1,4,5 in the same region.

They did speak of having regional centers at one time, I hope it has been forgotten.

Was there any discussion about going back to the double elimination format? Also, what about district 1,4,5 in the same region.

The double elimination is still a possibility.
DD were moer inclined to try this first as it is still in line with what was enacted 2 years ago.

The combination of districts 1, 2, 4 was something that is part of this new format to see how it works.
I believe everyone sees teh weakness in it, but becasue discernment is to address that, nothing was done.
