Just my opinion, but this year the thunder bay kings at the 95 level were,in my opinion, not diciplined and had alot of attitude from their players. At times their style of play was what I would term cheap and when a kid got a penalty he would laugh at the refs and many were talking smack to our peewee A team during the regular season meeting. Played them in two games lost and won one. It does seem when you play a canadien team that they have a "different" idea about sportsmanship and the kids put off an air of smugness or entitlement. We only played two canadien teams so I may be off base but both were really similair.

last year a team from thunderbay tripped a kid into the boards, as he took the shot that would have been the tying goal, with one second on the clock. When he got up to join his teammates at the handshake he was met by the largest Thunder Bay player on the ice who, out of sight of the refs who were supervising the handshake, speared him in the abdomen under his chest protector. It was hard enough for the kid to fall to the ice and remain there for many minutes until his coaches helped him off of the ice. It was by far the cheapest thing I have ever saw a kid do on the ice. This was in the open tournament in 2007, so whatever thunder bay team that was.

The worst part is, I was waiting for the next game to start and I got to hear all of the Thunder Bay parents laughing about it. I know there are some very good hockey teams from Thunder Bay, but it sounds like that at least one is ruining the reputation of all of them.
this was the 96 open level in 2007, that would make them peewees this past winter. However, our team played a thunder bay team over the winter and they were great sports, so I don't want to paint the whole town bad.

My favorite parent of the 2008 Invite Tourney

Post by Game? »

My favorite parent of the 2008 Invite tourney was the individual in the Easton orange hat for the 95 Machine. After a horrendous call and error of judgment on the Stripes part (the Machine scored a fantastic goal that went through the back of the net. It was obvious to most everyone including the parents from LS Stars that I was standing near that it should have been counted)

Regardless..in the vocalizations that occurred following the poor call there was an exchange between the very large fellow in the orange hat inviting someones who I assumes was a LS player's grandfather --as the Machine parent had him by 50 pounds and was perhaps 20 plus years younger-- outside to settle it. Now, I am not sure what was said prior to that, but it was simply wonderful to see such a grand level of sportsmanship. What surprised me most was that I had heard that there was a fantastic code of conduct for the machine teams and parents that was strictly followed and adhered to.
Game for kids????

I will agree with you at times they were. However, the team in the Meltdown was not the 95 Kings and we had different coaches. Also, I am sure you will agree that we as parents watching do not hear everything going on out there and our children will tell us what they want us to hear. I am not sure if this about hockey or prejudice against Canadians (by the way mispelled in your message). We support your tournaments and economy. As I stated this sport is for the kids and they need to learn how to win and lose and if we as parents can not set a good example than no wonder these kinds of things are going on in a game. We had a player in one of your tournaments get spit in the face by an american player for no reason, also my son was picked up and flipped from behind after the play was called. So my point is it goes both ways and you need to see that. I do not agree with cheap play or bad attitudes whether you are Canadian or American. By the way, how is Hermantown doing?
