Hockey Day Minnesota 2009

Post by Sparlimb »

Do you think Hill-Muray and St. Thomas Academy being defending champs will mean they will once again get a game on this day? I'd guess an Xcel game is pretty likely, but you never know...

Ah it's possible. Maybe in Lake of The Woods. Who played there this year?

Heard there was no Lake of the Woods game for next season. Organizers lost too much money. Have a day at the X with some top southern teams vs top northern teams. Call it the NORTH/SOUTH CHALLENGE. (Sort of like the Big 10/ACC Challenge in hoops.) Play an outdoor game in a real northern hockey town like Roseau, GR or Eveleth. Something different.

Yeah that would be a great idea. Almost like a state tourny. But not quite.

Warrior Varsity Boys vs Warrior Varsity Girls? Or was there another TOP team from Warroad you'd like to put in there?

I am trying to understand this quote without assuming you meant to insult Baudette. Are you saying that because they have not been as good as Roseau or Warroad in recent years that they are not a hockey town? Because no metter how I read it, it seems like an insult. And I am not even from there.

Absolutely not an insult. Was just referring to what many this day and age have referred to as "Hockey Towns". You can't go 3 minutes without Eveleth being mentioned during the state tourney, and Warroad is proclaimed as "HOCKEY TOWN USA" and Roseau has been at the top of the heap for a while now. Simply stated that it may generate more interest with a new venue. Apologies to Baudette if it came out any other way.

Good to know. Figured if I misunderstood, others might have as well. Good to clear it up!

I think no private schools should be featured on hockey day Minnesota its just setting a bad example for future high school players.

How about Edina/Roseau at Braemar? Public schools...big and small, north and south, strong traditions. It will be running time so They can still broadcast the full game and switch the the next one in line quicker than they would figuring the game would be stop time.

I know, we could go back to a one class state tourmey, and kick all the privetes out. Theyre so bad. And if they don't split up the tourney lets go on a crusade of all private school atheletes.
I went to a fight, and a hockey game broke out.

Hockey Day should be during sections next year. Have the 7AA semi-finals at the DECC part of it. The Bulldogs are at Mariucci that weekend. So there's 3 games. The semi's could start at 10:00 AM like last season, so they should be done at 2:30 with the double header. Have the Wild start at 3:00 vs. Pittsburgh. Gophers start at 6:30. Then have a section semi final at Breamar arena at 9:30 pm. I know 9:30 might seem late, but it's not much different from the late state tourney games.

I think close to every city in this great state has been discussed as Hockeytown USA by members of the bored.
