Past: Housley, Broten

Future: Peter Mueller, Erik Johnson, Matt Niskanen, Tom Gilbert are pretty obvious

here's others who people may not be on everyone's radar for being good NHL'ers

Chad Rau - Why? He was drafted with the last pick in his draft year by the Toronto Maple Leafs. The reason he was drafted so late was because he had bad concussion problems when he was younger and people though he had a soft head and wouldn't make it to college even. Well now he lead Colorado College in points and is widely regarded to have one of the best shots in all of college hockey. He can skate, create, and shoot from everywhere.

Kyle Okposo - In his current stint in the NHL he has performed very well for a 19 year old fresh off of playing college and minors. His work ethic and athletic ability will carry him and will help him propel his game to close to a one point a night player in the NHL.

Jamie McBain - He can really do it all. If his skating continues to improve he will be a solid 3rd or 4th defensemen for years to come.

Ryan McDonaugh - A very, very, steady defenseman who plays with a lot of intensity. His physical play and his positioning is something that the pros love. He is a kid who works very hard and if he continues to he will be playing in the NHL for a long, long time.

There are a few others but I'd say they're still to early to call solid NHLers in the future

Was the topic meant to mean Minnesota Made as in Bernie's deal, or Minnesota Made as in born & bred? If Bernie's deal, you've only got a few names to pick from right now. Johnson, Okposo, Mueller. Futures : McBain, maybe Carmen, maybe Flynn.

I think Ballard and Niskanen are both potential All-Stars.

Mueller is great and Okposo is on his way. I like Gilbert with Edmonton a lot too.

check out the list of current MN guys in the NHL now at www.mnhockey.blogspot.com

Mark Stuart from Rochester has played nearly every game this year for the Bruins and is doing pretty well. He could be an all star sometime. He is only 24 I think.

haha good point...but if you wanted to say it's Bernie's Minnesota Made you've got another crop of kids coming in the future. He started a team like he did with the MN 88's called the MN 96 Machine. Supposedly they are UNBELIEVABLE and Bernie says at this point their farther along in their development then the MN 88. That's flat out scary. FYI one of their best players is Lou Nanne's grandson Tyler who is a phenom for a young, young kid

I have not seen this 96 machine team, but heard many good things. Also was at their rink the other day, and saw all the trophies the 96 machine has one in the last 2 years. I counted at least 10 champions. But the 96 machine shall never be compared to the 88's until they quit with the pretty pretty jersey's and go to the old school practice jerseys, but original color. Not orange.
If you look good, you play good.

I was wondering why it took so long to mention him.

Housely is the Gretzky of Minnesota hockey. End of discussion.

As far as future, look out for Eric Johnson and Big Buff.

I was at Lightning game last night watching Jamie McBain. His cousin Edwin McCain played the post-game concert.

Roseau is an awful far ways away from Bernie's operation.

Some of the names being mentioned on here are absolutely ridiculous, Matt Smaby and Mark Stuart? Also, Ballard and Niskanen will probably never be all stars and Peter Mueller is not "great". The cream of the crop right now is Parise, Byfuglien, David Backes, Langenbrunner, and Leopold and Gologoski are both having good years. Erik Johnson, Oshie and Okposo definitely have bright futures too.

Are you smoking crack? His father was a football player at SCSU where he met Buff's mother and then split. He was raised in Roseau and due to poor grades went into Juniors and skipped out on the HS scene.

Also, forgot to mention Derek Stepan. Captained America's U-20 to gold last year and scored a hat trick for the Rangers in the preseason. Kid is going to be on America's next (gold-medal-winning) olympic team in three years - perhaps an alternate captain. Mark my words.

I wish we could (fully) claim Oshie, but unfortunately he was not MN born. Otherwise, yeah, he's MN through and through.

I feel like there is some confusion in this thread between Minnesota-born NHLers and Minnesota Made (Bernie's Program) NHLers.

Can someone please clarify?
