Early Departures

Post by wisconsinprephockey »

Any beat on who will ditch their remaining eligibility and head for the pros?

The Badgers lose the most overrated and overhyped dissapointment they ever recruited as Turris signed with Pheonix today.

How else is heading out?

I think Oshie will stay, unless the Sioux win the NCAA title.

You are kidding yourself. He is gone after this season. Win or lose.

Agreed. Win, Lose or Draw Duncan and Oshie are both gone.

Maybe this is old news already but Wisconsin forward Kyle Turris has signed with Phoenix and is expected to play in their final three games. In my own very amateurish opinion, Kyle is an amazing talent but not ready for the NHL. He got knocked off the puck by just about everyone in the WCHA and made many many freshman mistakes. Don't get me wrong - the guy's a phenom, just needs more time. I'm a little disgusted too because I'm both a Badger fan and a Gopher fan (I know, I know, but it does happen) and I hate seeing all these talented players leave before the teams can truly gel with them in the lineup. This season, the Badgers would have had Turris, Skille, Piskula, and Pavelski. National Champs? Maybe, but the Gophs would have had Goligoski, Kessel, Okposo, and a host of others I can't think of now. Edge - Gophers. Disappointing.

Joe Kalinski from Mankato signed with Philly. Not a big name, but an early departure none the less.

I know it is impossible to guess what aa players agenda is and how they feel about playing college puck, but if you had to take a guess how long would you guess Jordan Schroeder will stay with the Gophs?

It should be entertaining to watch him play, but I hope for the sake of my Badgers Jordan stays a half a year at best.

He is a talented player and should be able to go places quick but will he?

He'll definitely be at the U longer than a half a season cause he won't be drafted until summer of 2009.

It is tough to say how long he'll be around when we don't know which NHL team will own his rights, what their philosophy on player development is, what their depth chart is like, etc.

I think it is safe to say the Gopher coaching staff is planning on getting two seasons out of him (maybe three depending on the NHL team) and then all bets are off after that.

Just Read in the Duluth News Tribune this Morning that UMD Bulldogs Defenseman Justin Garrison signed a 2 year free Agent Contract with the Florida Panthers.

He was a big name in Mankato. His numbers didn't reflect his value to the Mavs and evidently to Philly too. Jutting said the offer they gave was worthy of a first rounder. Hard to pass up. He will be missed, though. Let's just hope Bruess doesn't follow him out the door.

I'm not so sure. Goalies have a long shelf life compared to any other position. Might be more advantageous to let Kangas ripen vs a baptism by fire.

Andreas Nodl signed with Philly toda giving up his last two years at SCSU.

And although it isn't a WCHA departure, Justin Abdelkader (Frozen Four MOP in 2007) signed with Detroit giving up his senior year at Michigan St.

How big is that kid (Jordan Schroeder) these days?

He is not a real tall kid. USA Hockey lists him at 5'9. Usually those roster listings tend to be a little generous when compared to reality so who knows. I guess we'll find out next fall when NHL Central Scouting does their official measurements for 2009 draft eligible players.

But I doubt he is any taller than 5'9.

I don't care if he signed the biggest contract in NHL history, the Early Departures thread is not where it should go.

Yeah, sorry, that's why I put Sr. next to his name. As I was writing it, I realized he was a senior. I thought it was worthy news anyway since he got his first point in his first game. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I'm not sure what Jordan Schroeder has to do with early departures either, but nobody seemed to freak out about that.

By the way....

April 4 — Michigan State sophomore Michael Ratchuk has signed a professional contract with the Philadelphia Flyers, and will report to the Flyers’ American Hockey League affiliate Philadelphia Phantoms immediately, as announced by the Flyers on Friday afternoon.

Technically he was an early departure... the school year isn't over yet.

Kinda fun to see bobbers get worked up.
