Section 2AA/2A went out last week. The tryouts are in Shakopee on March 26, 28, 29 and practices are on April 4,5,7 in Shakopee as well.

Watched the Section 4 '92 and '91 tryouts tonight in Stillwater and was surprised at low turn out versus the 40-60 I had heard might be expected.

For the '92 there were 8 D, 5 G and 15 F - I think 20 make it 6 D, 2 G and 12 F so minimal cuts.

For the '91 it was an even lower number 17 skaters and 2 G so everyone makes Phase II?

The first night was run great all around by people there. Are others seeing lower than expected tryout numbers in their sections?

I to was surprised by the low turnout. I think they'll have a pretty good squad though.

The drills were good and I agree that all the coaches did a great job but I didn't like the way they switched lines during the scrimmage as there were 20 girls on the ice at one time as some left benches early and some were slow to get off the ice. Hopefully it will be different this weekend and have players get to the bench before being allowed to change.

Sorry I only listed/knew the U16 '92 Group.

Dahl was in the U17 1991 group at Stillwater. Not sure of whole group but also saw Lauren Charpentier of Stillwater; Jess Harren, Hill Murray and Michelle Fisher, Cretin Derham Hall; and Christen Schendel, NSP.

There was a small turnout in Section 2. I think part of the reason for fewer girls not participating is due to spring break plans that were booked months in advance and almost impossible to change on such short notice. I think MH would be wise to project tryout dates 4-5 months in advance so that parents can have plenty of time to plan their spring break vacations around the tryout dates. Most people book their vactions in October or November.

At the Adv 16 tryout, I counted 22 skaters (9 D and 13 F) and 5 goalies. Unless there are some position changes it looks like only 1F, 3D and 3G will be cut. IMO there are some very strong players but the depth of talent is suspect.

I would agree completely with this. For any parents/kids who must plan way in advance to take advantage of Spring Break, having to book arrangements early, changing flight schedules at literally the last minute becomes very expensive or even impossible. For the super rich, it's probably not a big deal, but for most folks it forces them to make a very difficult decision: NDP or go on the vacation that's been arranged way ahead of time?

The dates for the start of the Advanced 15 (93's) has been published since the Mn Hockey handbook was printed last summer. States :
March 17-31 MH District Advanced 15 teams formed, to mean youth and girls as both are operating under the same format starting this year.
As for the 16 and 17, the High school coaches nominate the players even though it is under Mn Hockey and are a different format using High school sections rather than Mn Hockey Districts as in the Adv 15 program. If the parents tried to find out a date and no one could give an answer then complaints should be made to the Mn VP of Hockey Operations.

Not a lot of players in Section 1 tryouts. About 23 skaters or so for both 91's and 92's, 3 goalies for the 91's, and I think 2 for the 92's. Some good players not attending due to vactions.

Even though it is very early in the process it will be interesting to see if they continue this year's format as they are not getting even close to the #'s they were wanting based on the information from the flyer and reports from sections coming in here.

The flyer says "State divided into eight high school sections and a minimum of 40 candidates from each section are invited to participate in the trials to determine the 20 players to represent the section at the Advanced 16 and Advanced 17 Spring Festivals. Each candidate will receive 4.5 hours of ice time and a participant jersey. Total of 320+ candidates in each age category.

I think it's a bad time, a lot of the good girls also play a spring sport. I think you see more one sport players in the boys.

Can anyone fill me in on this one. Besides a player being sick, how can you miss the first day of tryouts but come to the second day? Then still have a chance to make the team. If you were applying for a position in anything else it would be unacceptable. So how does that work? When you have dedicated players giving up whatever is needed to make it both days it seems a little unfair.

It does seem like girls are going and coming at the '92 and '91 - spring break trips/travel appear to be the issue. There is one top player out now with a medical injury (broken pinky finger from softball) not sure how it will play out - clearly top 5 first night - but will miss at least 2-4 tryouts of Phase I.
