WCHA Playoffs: tMinnesota-Duluth @ Denver

Post by Zamboni Guy »

tUniversity of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs will travel to Denver, Colorado to take on the University of Denver Pioneers in an opening round best of three WCHA Playoff match-up. The teams split in their only regular season match-up of the year on October 26-27 in Denver with the Pioneers taking game one 5-1 and tUMD taking game two 3-0.

Since 1/12/08, Denver has gone 5-10-0 including being swept by Minnesota State-Mankato, North Dakota, and Colorado College. While tUMD has gone 5-8-2 during the same stretch including being swept by North Dakota and Colorado College.

This definitely is looking like a match-up in which either team could end up on top and with a trip to the Xcel Energy Center and the 2008 Red Baron WCHA Final Five.

Thoughts or predictions on this opening round match-up?

I'll take tUMD in 3 games. They usually hold their own in Denver and with the 3 game format I think they can pull it off. Denver has had some struggles of their own lately, so I don't see either team as having a real mental edge. I see tUMD winning on Friday 3-1 while Stalock stands on his head. Denver will win on Saturday 3-0, while tUMD powerplay goes 0-6. tUMD will come from behind on Sunday to win 3-2. Should be a good weekend of hockey!

Denver takes game one by the score of 6-3. tUMD got behind the eight ball early and couldn't scratch their way out. I look for a different result tonight in a lower scoring game.

As Hawk Harelson would say: PUT IT ON THE BOARD, YES!, Thank god the Bulldogs fans who thought their boys would at least make the final five can be shut up
