My bad, you're absolutely right. I was thinking of Cretin that they beat. Regardless, they did play BSM & Minnetonka to tight games as well as beating CEC and CDH. Good catch.MNHockeyFan wrote:Correction: BSM beat Marshall 5-2, on Dec. 14th.HasBeen17 wrote:Don't worry about Marshall stepping up to Section 7AA. They won't do that. Great game for Thurday night hockey on FSN!HasBeen17 wrote:I know that for a fact, the last time DM vs DE faced-off was during the 1998-99 season. Duluth fans have been shunned the opportunity to watch two solid programs battle it out for bragging rights in a city that much like the rest of the state, takes pride in their own hockey programs.
This should have been an exciting rivalry in the making during the last 9 years (or a rekindling of what was in the past)...most important, it has the type of rivalry that can still gain state-wide attention! Just think about the strength of DE matching up against the well built foundation of a DM program. It's sad.
you want to make a bet about that???? heard kids still get in that don't pass tests at least before the new head lady took chargeHShockeywatcher wrote:You'd have to ask the person in charge of recruiting and advertising. I don't know where you got this information ColdasIce. If an entrance exam score is even borderline above, it goes to a committee for final approval. My personal opinion is that the school likes to have higher than normal SAT/ACT scores and fewer struggling students. If I was willing to give a list of names and schools (which I'm not) that could not get accepted, I think you would be in disbelief and these players would have put Marshall at the pinnancle. But those are the standards and the line is drawn. Believe it or not.ColdasIce wrote:you want to make a bet about that???? heard kids still get in that don't pass tests at least before the new head lady took chargeHShockeywatcher wrote:You'd have to ask the person in charge of recruiting and advertising. No, Marshall would rather play teams like STA and Benilde that actually MAKE IT to state. East would be a weak addition to their schedulein fact, this would then FORCE Duluth East to play Marshall as everyone knows the story behind that

You have no right saying that when East is afraid to play Marshall. Granted, they have nothing to gain, but either does CEC, MINNETONKA, BENILDE, OR CRETIN. I happen to believe that the top a teams can compete with the top aa teams. There is a lot more depth to AA........but a teams like STA and DM and Warroad can still compete. And there are similar matches like this around the state like Cretin vs Sta, and Warroad vs Roseau. Roseau and Cretin don't chicken out to big A rivals. I know a lot of people see AA as being the creme of crop (and it is), but most people don't walk around thinking the top AA teams are stones throws away from A. My point: there is NOTHING wrong with losing to a quality A team.right, East would be #1 seed and beat Marshall.
Anyway, I have no problem with East not playing Marshall. But then they can't walk around like they are the best team in the north. Play Marshall, play Hermantown or shut up.

Wrong, Skippy. Move up and play in Class AA or shut upMARSHALLS wrote:Play Marshall, play Hermantown or shut up.
Gee, what a surprise. A thread about Duluth Mars-hall (remember, you can't spell Marshall without Mars!) would devolve into an East vs. Marshall topic. Attaway, 'Topper fans. I knew that, given time, you'd go there.
Once again....3>0. That's gotta be painful. Good luck in the small pond (again).

Once again, there is nothing wrong with DE not playing DM. But answer this question. Should they see themselves as the best in the area (and walk around with arrogance)? My answer is no.

........the right answer isn't always East
that is a good point (seriously). But STA doesn't have to opt up play Cretin.Wrong, Skippy. Move up and play in Class AA or shut up
Wow. I never sat on here and laughed about East, and made fun of them. I could have made fun of East for three years in a row losing at sections, or could have asked you your opinion of David Brown. And making it to 3 state championships is a great accomlishment. We don't need to turn this into a east sucks or marshall sucks forum. Is this statement out of jealousy?Once again....3>0
It's always nice when the administrator has a clear bias. I have a proposal. Let's change the name to the Duluth East Hockey Forum and then we can get administrators for a forum that aern't constantly cheerleaders for their favorite team. That's gotta be painful. Good luck in the small pond (again).

First of all, you're wrong. My bias toward East? Sure, I support East but I've been the first to temper my support of East with objectivity. Check out my posting history for once and you'll see that. I've banned more than a share of East fans for blatant stupidity. Assuming they were East fans, that is.MARSHALLS wrote:Once again, there is nothing wrong with DE not playing DM. I never claimed the right answer is always East. You're seeing stuff which isn't there.
The David Brown thing was actually funny. Ask me about David? He had the game of his life against East and they had no answer for him. Satisfied?
I was actually impressed you got the 3>0 comment; it is a valid response to this constant whining from you Marshall fans about why East doesn't play them. We go through this at least twice a year. Get over it. My advice was simple; move up. Maybe Marshall is afraid of East, as some claim East is of Marshall. Oh, that's right...Marshall is a "better fit for Class A". Yup, that settles it.

It's not "there section". It's "their section". Am I suppose to argue with someone who can't grasp simple English? What middle school do you attend? Please don't tell me you're a public school product.reggiedunlop218 wrote:3>0? wow dude your cool, east cant even make it out of there section. they lost to cloquet, a team marshall worked 5-2.
so hey east, better luck next year watching in the excel.

Sometimes it good to see the other side of the story. That's the beauty of forums. Anyway...............I never claimed the right answer is always East. You're seeing stuff which isn't there.
Please, we don't need to fight about this. I know we all have pride in our favorite team, but I think this is escalating. As for East vs Marshall, it would be a pretty sweet game. I look at both schedules and see these teams making constant trips to the Twin Cities to play quality teams. Think about the cost savings to maybe not have to go down to cities for a day. No bus, no gas, no hassle. Think about the economic impact. This game would be up to East vs Cloquet standards, and the whole city would benefit from this game. Plus, you get a good game from two schools that hate eachother. Lets face it, a DM VS DE game would be a lot better then a DM vs Benilde game or DE vs Edina game.
I will stick my views and you can stick to your views.

Well I'm just going to throw a fact out there and say that Duluth East coach Mike Randolph will not play Duluth Marshall for whatever reason. If he (Randolph) proposed a game to Duluth Marshall coach Brendan Flaherty, Flaherty would jump all over it. But, I don't want to get too far into it in fear of getting banned like reggiedunlap218 and the_truth did.east hockey wrote:Wrong, Skippy. Okay, bring it back to Marshall's 2008-09 season because I'm done with this topic and don't care about Marshall's next season. Or last season. Or any season. I weighed in because a couple of clueless individuals were bringing up the East vs. Marshall topic (again).
puckman22, you don't know why those individuals were banned. Certain players and their families shouldn't misrepresent themselves on this Board. Don't comment on admin action again.

I love how any thread devoted to Marshall falls into the East-Marshall argument. I still feel that if Marshall wants to play East, though, the opportunity is there for them. Opt up to AA, like East does, and East will gladly put Marshall on their schedule. But for now, it makes a lot more sense to bring in teams like Edina, and personally I enjoy those games a lot as I get to see many of the best players and storied programs in the state come through the DECC. And as much fun as East-Marshall could be, I doubt it would come close to East-Cloquet, which is just on an entirely different level.
As for the enterance tests, having grown up with several people who went to Marshall, I can tell you that they probably aren't that hard. Maybe things have changed in the past 2-3 years, though. I wouldn't know.
And because I can't resist taking a parting shot, I'd like to point out that my public school education has allowed me to write in a far more coherent manner than at least one person who went to a private school. Looks like I made the right choice there!
Anyways, since we should get back on topic, I expect Marshall will be fine next year. They may not have the front-line talent of this year's class anymore, but it's still a deep program and everyone in the section lost something as well. I'd hazard to guess that they won't be in the single-A title game again, but they'll be in the mix until the end of the season as always.
