Try again, this time use a map. Besides, class A/AA isn't Tier 1/2, so you'd have to convince a lot of teams to opt up.

i did use a map

i took 1aa from south

8aa from way north

7aa from below that

and the other 5 were evenly made on how the team has done that last 10 years and how their youth team is doing

Big improvement on the current sections. Obviously there are some minor changes that need to be made but at least sections are more balanced than current sections. I agree that there is nothing wrong with having teams from anywhere around the metro in the same section. Compared to driving distances made up north and down south it is nothing to go to a couple section games across town.

Sections are not made based on talent though because that changes from year to year. If you want a balanced out playoff pre-set sections need to go. But as long as they are around they are going to be done by location to make less travel. Sure there are still some changes they could make to make them more even and still be okay location wise but sections don't change much from sport to sport if at all in some cases so in other sports they are complaining about different sections. There is no perfect solution to this even a 64 team playoff is not a perfect solution in all instances for everyone.

And he's already excluded schools that are AA by enrollment. I can think of one (two) off the top of my head.

This is a good list but by reading some of the comments, I can only imagine what the MSHSL goes through every 2 years trying to make everyone happy.

I've argued this on the girls side but have come to realize that the MSHSL aligns things geographically the best they can, even within the Metro area. In so doing section imbalances inevitably occur, but that's just the way they've always done it, not just for hockey but for all sports. Compared to the distances the teams up North have to travel, anything within the 7 county area is nothing, but it doesn't seem to matter to the MSHSL - they still divide it up into 4 geographic areas no matter how imbalanced they might be. Unless there is a massive, coordinated protest I don't see them changing things anytime soon.

I cheered for tDogs from 1972 until sometime around 2000.
Now they are my #3 college team.

How can South St. Paul compete in AA when there youth program is no good and has no numbers. They are combining programs with Simley/IGH and tell me when the last time IGH has been good at anything besides wrestling.

I like how 2AA touches every part of the Twin Cities metro area. Can't beat that.
