Doubt it. Little Falls girls could have a decent team if their best players did not all leave to play on other town's teams.

co-op

Post by SEhockeyDAD »

Do some Little Falls girls play hockey on another HS team?

Personally, I'm in favor of co-ops if it allows girls to play hockey if they couldn't otherwise. But it can be complicated and can raise some issues. For instance, how would Little Falls girls feel about being on the 4th line instead of playing regular shifts on a smaller team? Is it worthwhile if it creates a JV team with no one to play against unless they travel to the twin cities?

I don't suppose there's a smaller, nearby town they could co-op with instead of Brainerd? If, in the end, there's only 9 girls on the team and Brainerd's the only option, that may be that.

Yes, there are girls that are open enrolled.

LF plays as part of the Central Lakes Conference and LF had a JV team which would have played other JV teams in the CLC.

According to the MSHSL website, the Brainerd/Crosby-Ironton team is already a cooperative between Aitkin, Crosby-Ironton, Brainerd and Pillager. If the information on MSHSL is accurate Little Falls looks to have enough girls to field their own teams as they only had a few seniors.

Agree that a coop is good if that allows the girls to play that otherwise would not be able to. Not sure this is always the rationale behind a coop though.

That would be Bill Engvall's catch phrase. If you are going to slam somebody give credit were credit is due. 8)

Plenty of teams in the central and northern part of the state that have JV teams. I believe Brainerd is the only one in 8AA that doesn't.

I bet Alexandria is happy to have a Little Falls transfer on their team. Anez scores the winning goal for the Cards.

Michelle Anez - plays for Alexandria on their top line
Carlee Sylvester - plays for Warroad

both products of Little Falls youth hockey but feel the need to play in a solid program. I don't blame them at all.

Sounds like the Little Falls-Brainerd co-op is a done deal pending school-board approval.

Hmm, curious who initiated the cooperative? Did not see that one coming.

Fill us in more please as you obviously are "in the loop" so to speak.

Will this apply to the boys program as well? I have heard that the Brainerd school district is in serious financial trouble as far as activities are concerned. The RUMOR is that they will be cutting after school activities and will only field 3 sports per season.

This could be what's driving the coop.

Don't know anything about it but here is a link to a newspaper article about groups trying to support activities in Brainerd.

Good that will free up ice time for teams that actually use their practice time like the youth programs.

Wow wouldn't that be something the boys' team on the chopping block, maybe they would have to open in roll in Little Falls

The local bakeries in Brainerd would go out of business no cake-eaters

So, what is the scoop here?

Brainerd initiated the conversation with Little Falls to add to their current cooperative?

Will be interesting to see what happens as it looks like LF had JV and V teams this past season while Brainerd did not have a JV team only V.

It reads like Brainerd has BIG challenges ahead with their school district so it will be interesting to see how it all works out.

Some sad news coming out of Brainerd last night. Check the boys forum for details as this affects the girls and boys teams equally.
