It really isn't ignorant at all, it's called sarcasm. See, if you've been a member of this "bored" for any length of time you'd know where i was coming from. Since it seems you haven't, i'll explain it to you, real slow now... People are always claiming Marvin's gives job offers to parents of gifted hockey players as a method of recruiting. Although no one has ever been able to substantiate these allegations, people keep drumming them up. So, that is where the sarcastic comment came from...Get it now BlueSwede? Sarcasm, not ignorance.
Um . . . are you sure about that! If it walks like a duck, sounds like like a duck, whether or not it wears a sign that says "DUCK," most of us still call it a Duck.

Here we go again.
Of course Marvin's hires, what else are these parents going to do in Warroad for work.

Warroad recruits, anyone who thinks differently is probably, well, from Warroad. There is a Little Falls family "moving" to Warroad I hear. Must be for the fishing
I have first hand knowledge on this subject. Marvin's most certainly do recruit. Wally Kosabucky told me Mike Marvin showed up on his door step to recruit his daughter to play with the Warroad girls team with Gigi. He wouldn't leave his well paying job in the I. Falls paper mill, so his wife was offered a job driving school bus so that one parent would move there. Mike Marvin showed up on the doorstep of Curt Tessier and offered him a job at Marvin's to bring his two sons to Warroad to play hockey. Curt was very excited to brag that his sons were being recruited to play in Warroad and that I. Falls could shove it up their a@$. Albert Hasbargen was offered the job of Gardens (arena) Manager while his oldest son was playing a Bantam game against Warroad. Warroad ended up gaining four talented boys and an equally talented girl to their hockey program. Do you really think Wyatt Smith and the Martels left Thief River Falls for even more remote and desolate Warroad just to become hockey missionaries? If you don't know Warroad recruits you've got your head burried in the ice. I guarantee you that no-one has ever been offered a job in Warroad to get their kid on the Knowledge Bowl team. But ask Mike, he seems to be the lead man for recruiting. He would know.

Interesting. The question I would like answered is, "Why do all these kids supposedly leave their schools?" If this is the case, then I would certainly question why kids did not want to stay at a particular school - what's wrong with their school?
Ridingpine, You named alot of names in disgruntle. and did not name yours. if you are that honest in your accusations you will be man and tell us who you are. i myself, am from minnetonka
Ok, so Mike Marvin tried to recruit kids, I wouldn't doubt that a bit. But let me add this- Mike Marvin has nothing to do with the Window business, the school, or the Arena board. Kind of hard for him to make any offer of work, unless he needs someone to help him herd buffalo.

MM might not have anything to do with the window business, but what was he doing in the Marvin COB this morning?? Just visiting I'm sure...

They recruit in Warroad 12 months a year, thats the only way they are so strong in HS but terrible below, they bring in the players others develop, since they arent able to develop their own. Boys and girls alike, sad really. You dont think Mike MIGHT know someone with the ability to hire someone??? Just maybe

Roseau Warrior! Shame on you for using Marvin computers to surf the net and post on this website. You should get back to work before the software police at Marvin get a lead about you stealing time from the company, you can get fired for that!
In all honesty I don't know of one school that is consistantly successful that hasn't recruited at one time to build their program or to take it to another level. This is how modern programs get built. It happens in almost every sport. Look at Central's girls basketball team last year, someone recruited those players to all transfer. I remember when I was going to School 30 years ago, we would have people who would transfer in and be the big star on our football team. Recruiting kids is like the dirty little secret of High School Sports. Everyone does it except our team.

Warroad does it constantly, every year, at all levels. This last season the 14u and Girls HS had recruits on the team, the HS goalie starting next season isnt from Warroad. Mr Hockey was from Baudette, and now I hear there will be a family from Little Falls moving to Warroad, I doubt for the scenery. It might happen in alot of places, Warroad just does it more often and openly.

Not to worry. I used to work there in the IS Dept. I will make a call and have it checked out.
mulefarm wrote:They even recruited the former coach from Roseau!
Olson was ridden out of Roseau on rails. If he wanted to coach in the area he doesn't have too many teams to choose from. It's not like the suburbs.
Mike has nothing to do with the window business and as far as the COB goes who doesn't go to the COB? I go into the COB at least a few times a year and I don't work there or have a name that ends in Marvin. I love all the recruiting stories as much as the next person, but get real. The place employs 3000 people and town's entire population is 2,000. They have to come from somewhere now don't they? I know people that drive 60 miles every day, each way, to and from work and 99.9% have no kids in hockey. Did Mike recruit them too?
SB24 wrote:how about oliver? why did roso hire him when the whole town said he had no business coaching hockey. not because of his kid?
Considering Roseau's made it to the state tournament 3 years in row, two of the years beating a favored Moorhead team, I'd say he's not that bad of a coach.
How can somebody say the whole town didn't want him to coach? I think his record and product on the ice speaks for itself. My guess he has the best winning percentage of anyone who has coached at Roseau.
After seeing Hill and BSM body him around and seemingly get inside his head, I'm not sure he's ready for the WCHA. I know that will sound crazy to most, but he will have a tough time just sitting back and playing defensive defense and he will have an even tougher time rushing the puck. He is going to get knocked around a lot at the next level.

The real reason they hired Oliver is because he is such a good 3rd grade phys-ed teacher.
SB you seem to be the one that always brings up Warroad recruiting, it's almost like you are leaving clues in hope of one day getting caught.
Just like to stir the pot a bit...get things hopping again it's too easy with the "testy" roso folk these days.
Boblee hit it on the head. I don't think anyone will call you crazy after seeing him get shutdown against Hill Murray. I would think that would be a big concern for all the Ness/Gopher fans. If it isn't, than someone has some pretty good Ness colored glasses on

Here is my take, and NO I am not from Roseau. Teams playing against the Rams knew that Ness was very good and would try to key up on him if they could, or at least know when and where he was on the ice. When he plays for the Gophers I expect him to be a good to great player, but they are not going to key up on him because there are 4 other players on the ice that are going to be equally as dangerous most of the time. Opposing teams playing the Gophers are going to be more worried about the forwards then worrying about Ness. Ness is not going to stand out on the Gopher team like he stands out with the Rams because the opposing talent just got that much better for every game. I compare his skills to an Alex Goligoski type where he is an offensive minded defenseman and doesn't have the big physical ability to push guys around. I think he is going to do just fine, but it may not happen the first year of play until he gets use to the college game.
