An All-Time Low?

Post by pondpucker13 »

At the AA consolation championship between Blaine and Woodbury, there was little question as to who would start in goal. Harper earned the start and Hollerud's parents were not happy. They sat in their box with a sign reading "Hollerud- The Real #1 Goalie" and proceeded to Siv Harper each time he was scored on. This seems to take position competition to a new low. I'm just wondering people's thoughts on childish behavior such as this.

Speaking as someone whose kid was a backup goalie most of his HS career, if true, that is very sad.

I'd be ashamed/mad at my parents.

Can someone clarify what team this happened to? Was it the Blaine or Woodbury team that played the backup that upset these parents so much. Also, please encourage anyone who has video tape of this to put this on YouTube please...I would love to see two parents actually doing this.

Leave it to parents to ruin a "kids" sport. BTW, you've been nominated for best computer name. 8)

when i said i would love to see two parent doing this, i should clarify that i do not condone it, and would love to see the the two parents that have the embarrassing audacity to make complete arses out of themselves...this will stay with them forever as i have to imagine anyone associated with their program will never forget or forgive this action. so what is parents for the starting blaine, or starting woodbury goalie?

This was a Blaine drama. One junior, one sophomore. Should make for an interesting exchange through the summer, and next season. 8)

This is one of the worst scenarios I have heard of for a high school team, this really will cause so much off ice and on ice turmoil between parents and players to the detriment of the team, I am going to say that Brent Hollerud was embarrassed because of his parents actions (maybe) If you you look a little deeper I would say Brents parents brought him up with the "you can do no wrong" and "you are the greatest goalie" attitude, I checked Maxpreps Blaine team roster and Brent Hollerud is one of the few to post a player profile, it looks kind of like a Facebook setup http://www.trupreps.com/FanPages/TRU/Pr ... c795f48282 The sophmore Danny Harper had more playing time at 952 minutes and Brent Hollerud had 629 minutes, I hope coach Dave Aus puts Brent's parents in there place soon!

Lay off the Kid, he's a kid. He has a high level of confidence, good for him.

His parents are the ones that have the problem and should have just quietly sat on their hands during the tournament rather than make a scene in front of everyone

When I found myself on the bench for most of my high school career, I am glad that my parents never did that. I would have been embarrassed.

There is no doubt Harper is the more deserving goalie. And yes Hollerud was brought up with the "Your the best goalie out there" attitude, if true...that is just classless.

Is this a real story? Or should it be added to the urban legend web site?

If this really did happen, what should the coach do? This will be hard for the coach to pull the team and hs program together. You don't want to take it out on the kid, (cut player) but it will be extremely hard to develope a team concept. There are enough problems that come up during a season. Something like this is inexcusable and will be tough to fix.
