Relatively boring tourney. Outside of the BSM/Edina game, it didn't have a tremendous amount of excitement.
Sections had more intriguing games than the state tournament itself.
How does 2008 tourny rank?

you are really going to compare last weekends tourney to a Jr gold Tourney? I will agree that most games really did not come down to the wire, but a Jr gold comparison is a little over board. The Milk Man wrote:I believe this is the worst State Tourney i have ever experienced totally boring beside benilde Vs. One surely could not think that a Jr. Gold tournament was better than the State High School tournement, could he? Dissing Sweet Lou???? Whew, things are not that bad off.
Overall, the '08 tournament lacked hype going in (aside from Roseau going undefeated and defending its title? Aside from a Roseau-Edina final?) and was not able to sustain intrigue throughout the whole tournament. However, this is not unusual. It's been a long time since there's been a tournament that was totally compelling all the way through. You may have to go back as far as 1998, when East, Jefferson, Anoka and Hastings all had teams with legitimate title aspirations going in. East just proved to be substantially more balanced in the end, in beating all those teams, all of which went home with hardware.
For we fans of northern hockey, there could not have been a worse match-up than Hill-Edina for an AA title game. Among my hockey-loving friends from all points north of St. Cloud, that game was universally dismissed, which is unfortunate, but that's the way it's always been.
Still, when late-Feb. to early March rolls around, there is no better time of the year. I'm just happy that this tournament - A and AA - exists in any form and will continue to exist for years to come. I hope next year's tournament is an improvement over this year's, but it could be even more lackluster. I, for one, will still be paying major attention, no matter what.
