12ua girls i went to a fight and a hockey game broke out?
22 penalties in a 12u girls hockey game. many who watched this game could not believe it. 13 penalties on egf and 8 on warroad. in my view the refs had a decent control on the game, whereas the coaches need to get their acts together. if you can not control the players, you do not belong behind the bench! this game was a disgrace! the one wqarroad girl could not even make it thru the hand shake and had to be pulled out of line.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS?

problem is --- they did not have it under control.bigpoppababy wrote:Unfortunately, I'm from Moose lake and watched one of our Varsity girls get air lifted to Duluth following a Girls varsity game. I'm not a big fan of it. Happy to hear the refs had it under control.
they let small stuff go early, and kept letting it go till little things became big things. as for 8 and 11 for the penalty count??? most were in the 3rd.

as to why i posted this....we again need to step back and look at ourselves and make sure we are leading our players in the right direction. at this game parents were screaming at the players and refs and coaches.
these coaches DID NOT have their teams under control. when they are going thru the hand shake and there are problems right in front of the refs and coaches it is not under control! i truly hope this is dealt with appropriately.

Kinda figured it would be the officials problem somewhere along the road...gohome wrote:problem is --- they did not have it under control.bigpoppababy wrote:Unfortunately, I'm from Moose lake and watched one of our Varsity girls get air lifted to Duluth following a Girls varsity game. I am not laying the complete blame on the Ref's. nor am I going to lay complete blame coaches, players (12yearolds), or the parents.
Lets look at their hero's -- Have you ever made it completely threw a NHL game on tv without seeing a fight? NO because somewhere during the game they will take a break and show one on replay. or the 2nd game of a college series?
Yes, the Ref's should have made more calls early in the game. Either it is legal or illegal. not well, we'll let this one slide or that one slide because i missed one earlier or we'll just let them play. Ref's are in charge of the game and fair play. And these Refs were Adaults not 16 year old kids.
Yes, the Coaches should have taken control of their team, before it had gotten out of hand.
Yes the parents should not have been yelling, but part of being a parent is caring, and if someone is slashing or hitting one of your kids, what would you do?? just sit there and watch??
Yes, the players should have controlled their emotions, and been good sports about it.
This is all easy to say after the fact. and easier for people that have never been in one of these situations. This is one of those things that is easier said then done.

That's not what it sounded like..

Any player should be able to determine the difference between the NHL and what ever USA or High School team they are playing for.

Are you basing this on your past officiating experience?

Not really, this is the type of situation we can all teach our kids about before they get into them, and again after they live through it.
Sorry to appear to be singling you out "gohome". That wasn't my intent. The point is, these players have every opportunity to be taught at home, and by their coaches, how to behave in difficult situations.
Why do so many look to the officials to be the responsible party, when they partake in a total of between 60 to 90 minutes of these players seasons is strange to me. Yes I have officiated, coached, and parented multiple kids through hockey "careers".

Would we be making such a big deal out of this if it was a boys game? That is certainly a lot of penalties for one game, but not unheard of. I'm sure there are many boys games at that age group putting up similar penalty numbers. It's hockey, we all know there are going to be games like that from time to time. It's nice to know the girls can let their emotions get the better of them on the ice, it shows me they have passion for the game and alot of competetiveness in them.
