I remember being a kid and being in the cities for anything with the discussion of where you are from.
So I would say Roseau.
-Oh, yeah I know where Roseville is.
No, Roseau.
-Where's that?
Up north.
-By St. Cloud.
No futher north, like near the border.
-You mean by Alex.
A lot further north.
-What's further north than Alex?
I am not kidding you, this was a very common exchange with anyone south of like Hwy. 12 or the cities.
So I would say Roseau.

This scenario is nearly an every day occurance for me--and I have lived in "the cities" for about 20 years now.td577 wrote:I remember being a kid and being in the cities for anything with the discussion of where you are from.

I always thought that Roseau was a suburb of Edina.....That chimney thing really cleared things up for me!5th Line Center wrote:This scenario is nearly an every day occurance for me--and I have lived in "the cities" for about 20 years now.td577 wrote:I remember being a kid and being in the cities for anything with the discussion of where you are from.

I am not kidding you, this was a very common exchange with anyone south of like Hwy. 12 or the cities.First, they are sure that they heard you say Roseville. (You have to repeat the name a few times and then, ultimately, spell it out for them.) Then, it seems to me that the next thing they say is: "Oh that's up on the range." Finally, I explain that there is a little "chimney" at the top of the state that sticks into Canada... I tell them that Roseau is right next to the chimney. This can be confusing though, as sometimes they then think that Roseau is in Canada.

Hopefully, Byfuglien didn't promote this suburb idea w/ the reporter, as he has shown tendancies to be a bit of a "free spirit" in his life...

North of the cities
Its true sad how it is looked at being from the north. I have heard comments about how they cant believe we live this far north, even been asked if we had power lines up here. Are people down in the cities that wraped up into themselves or they just plan slow?

Don't be ridiculous, we all know that you have power lines. You got them in '98 - the year after indoor plumbing, right?Warroad97 wrote:Its true sad how it is looked at being from the north. Things like this happen all the time. People from nowhere near Minnesota write about high school hockey here and are just dead wrong. One example is an article from the Boston Globe (i think) this year about the tournament where teams from around here go play the best Boston ahs to offer. The article talked about the AHA-Catholic Memorial game and referred to AHA as the defending state champs (even though they didn't go to state last year) and talked about a really good player from AHA named John Mattson (real name Danny). It's just annoying.
Everyone hates private schools (and Edina)!!
