Need help with a Drill

Post by HockeyDad2016 »

Squirt Level - A

I Can't for the life of me get my team to forecheck hard - maybe thats why they backcheck so good.

I need a drill to practice a aggresive forecheck

Can anyone give me some suggestions/examples.

thanks in advance

drill

at that level a simple dump the puck with one player having a head start. The other player has to go in hard after the other guy. Pretty simple but effective.

A nice variation, 4 or 6 stations - 2 in each D zone and 2 across ice in neutral.
Dump the puck as above, changing chasers as you move to stations - every time the chaser 'wins', they get a point. First 4 or so to 5 points go to a play-off.

I like these.

Here's another: Play 3 forwards vs. 2 defenseman in the area below the top of the faceoff circles (one net in standard position). Dump a puck in ... forwards are trying to score ... defensemen are trying to clear (up the boards, of course, not up the middle). Forwards will have success only if the first forechecker is hard on the puck. It will also teach F2 & F3 to read the play and support properly. I think this helps forwards understand that they can forecheck hard for 20 feet and create scoring opportunities .... or else they have to back check hard for 180 feet just to play defense. But don't be shy about reminding them of this :)

fun drills

astroids, this game is when the kids line up behind the goalline and then the coaches line up on either end of the red line with a bunch of pucks. when the coach says GO! the kids start skating and try to make it to the other end of the rink with out getting hit in the skates by the pucks that the coaches are shooting at their skates. don't use sticks it is a lot more fun without them for some reason. :D
