#1 Warroad vs. #4 TRF

Wow, Zane Gothberg was amazing tonight. the shot's on the scoreboard read 57, in actuallity it was probably closer to 70, lots of shots put on the wrong side of the board(confusion with TRF being the away team), lots not counted at all. Zane is easily the best goalie i've seen this year and yes that includes Mr. Lee from Roso. If you read this board Zane- nothing to hang your head about, what a performance that was. hats off to the TRF coaching staff and players, they played the systems that would keep them in the game.

What systems would that be? Getting outplayed and praying their goalie stand on his head like he did?SB24 wrote:Wow, Zane Gothberg was amazing tonight. the shot's on the scoreboard read 57, in actuallity it was probably closer to 70, lots of shots put on the wrong side of the board(confusion with TRF being the away team), lots not counted at all. I congratulate TRF on what sounds like a fine effort. I'm sure they'll be ready and fired up in 08-09...I just wish they could have finished the job...

were you at the game?(*edited: i forgot you live about 670 miles away and haven't seen any HS games this year) they tried to clog up the slot which didn't allow warroad to jump on what rebounds Gothberg did give up. They had 2 and usually 3 men on ravndalen as soon as he touched the puck. It was obvious TRF was the slower, less skilled team, but the game they played allowed them to stay in it...basically the only system that let them stay close.

Wasn't at the game, SB. I have heard many times of this "system" you speak of. PR or EGF will need the same type of game...SB24 wrote:were you at the game? they tried to clog up the slot which didn't allow warroad to jump on what rebounds Gothberg did give up. Lets not forget the Warroad goalie. His save % was .965 28 saves for 29 shots. Zanes was .964 55 saves for 57 shots. The other thing is there was about 5 chances from point blank that were truly on the doorstep. A couple in overtime. It could have easily been over three or four times. Many of Warroads chances were from outside. Zane played great but so did Paquin.

Don't compare save percentages when the shots are 2-1 in warroads favor. To have practically the same save % over twice as many shots is amazing. Warroad had plenty of chances right in front and Zane got a leg out and stopped it. TRF couldn't bury the puck when they had chances, they kept missing the net or fanning on the puck or hitting a defensemen. Paquin may have played well but Zane played great and there is no comparison in the way those two played last night. Zane was MVP of the game win or lose.

I 100 percent agree that it was a dominating performance by Zane and he was the MVP win or lose. I was only pointing out that Paquin also deserves credit for playing a good game also. Both goalies were great Zane was better. It took a redirected shot to beat him. You are right TRF had alot of great chances to put it away and did not. Paquin also came up big several times. Zane came up big all night long. He is not only a great goalie but a great kid and student. Taking nothing away from Zane my point was that Paquin also deserves some credit and my point stands.2minutesforroughing wrote:Don't compare save percentages when the shots are 2-1 in warroads favor. Well you are both correct...sort of. Paquin made some nice saves but did you see the one he didn't save? Wow, no way that puck should have even still been near the front of the net by the time the TRF guy got there. Don't try to compare save %. The shots posted were no where near correct. I wonder if Elliott was there, i know he counts shots sometimes. There were at least 3 occurances where i saw shots go up for both teams when warroad got a shot on net and i also saw 2 or 3 times when warroad got a shot and it went up for TRF. I would assume the clock people were a bit confused with TRF on the visitors side, i'm not saying they were doing this intentionally. Also there were quite a few flurries in front were i saw Zane make 3 or 4 saves and 1 would get put up on the board.
So, long story short, the shots were probably more like 65 to 20...

IMo, clearly the better team won, but by far the best individual perfromance was by Zane. I have never watched a HS goalie play that well in person, he was amazing. I agree the shots were more like 70-20, TRF was happy just to flip the puck out of the zone to relieve pressure, in doing so they got a couple breaks during a Warroad line change, but never really pressured Warraod. I do think TRF might be pretty solid for the next couple years. TRF kids were young, and you could see they were weaker and slower, that could change. Its almost the reverse of 2 years ago when TRF went to state, pretty good team, but a weak goalie, I think that might bite Warroad at state, should they go. He isnt terrible, but certainly not the teams strength. The one goal he let in was terrible, should never even have been a shot on net, he hesitated, bad play.
All in all, the best team won, Zane has nothing to be down about, it with out him its a 4-5 goal loss in regulation.

That game was probably the best individual performance i have seen by a player in any type of hockey. Zane was AMAZING. He really deserved that win, but trf coudlnt get it to the other end all night. It was Zane against Warroad pretty much and he should keep his head up and get prepared for next and the scouts
I think TRF will be a favorite to win the the section championship next year ecpecially witht he goaltending and theyre only losing a couple starters but werent that important. Good luck next year boys.
