B686- I'm assuming your from Hastings? Let me ask you this. What are people feeling down there? Honestly? You give all the credit to C.D. H. and it sound's like they played well, but i didn't hear you say anything about the wonderful coaching staff at Hastings. Shouldn't they be breaking down film of previous meetings and coming up with a better game plan? 9-1 in a Section game. 4vs.5?? These kids were not prepared to play. There's no excuse. Is everyone down there afraid of Russ Welch? I'm just curious. If he were any where else they would have run him out of town long ago. Thev'e been outscored now 57-16 or something like that since the first part of Jan. Not to mention going 0-23?? previous to that. Wow!!
ALSECORD - With you having friends in the Hastings community it would seem as though you probably have a good handle on what people are feeling in Hastings. Having endured the 4-22 season last year, a 9-17 season is an improvement. A 9-17 season is still not great but when you were below the bottom it is an improvement. Even if Welch would have left at the end of last year's nightmare, a program can't rebound from a 4-22 season within a year. The Hasting program will continue to improve.
You are correct in your statement that the Hastings players were not ready to play. As a coach it you do your best to mentally and physically prepare your team to play. The players still have to execute that plan. I have no doubt Coach Welch and his staff did their best to prepare their team. If Coach Welch would have made a mistake and not prepared the team adequately, he would be the first to admit it. Again, I give credit to the CDH coaching staff and players, they did a better job of preparing and the key is the CDH players without question executed their plan better.

yep
The only stand out player on Hastings this year was Ben Horsch.
Jon Gleinser played some incredible games but he was not nonstop consistent. He played two incredible games against Woodbury and Roseville to get the wins. But it took him half the season to do it and get the big wins. If Ben Horsch was on another team with a bit more talent he would more than likely be scouted. Other solid players were Bob Speedling and Leon werner but they are not goal scorers and Hastings had none of them this year. Horsch deserves the most credit of all on the team, in my opinion one of the top D in the state.
As for the Cretin game, Cretin did control 9/10 of the game. In the first Hastings gave them problems a few times but other than that Cretin was on their game and dominated. Gleinser played solid but the D covered guys out front for once for Hastings in the first period which prevented many rebound goals(Horsch having a lot to do with it). The first period was great for the D till they were gassed and it was over from there. The flood gates were then open...
As for Russ Welch, I have no opinion cuz I'm sick of talking about it. Any topic where the word "Hastings" comes up the many Russ haters hop on it right away and blame everything on him...so whatever, you can think what you want and blame who you want but Russ did his job in preparing for Cretin but the boys just didn't have the talent for them.
In conclusion with my essay, lol
, this was an improvement from last year so congrats to Hastings on that, hopefully next year can be the same even with 3/4 of the team this year being seniors.
