tonka v. hopkins - round 3
This is the one Hopkins has been waiting for, the rubber match against rival Tonka. Will the Royals fade away or will they shine?
Will it be a Krueger v. Fons match-up?
Will Jake Gardiner take over the game?
Will the Skippers collapse under pressure?
Will the Royals play a solid 2-way game?
Post your predictions and thoughts...
Mine:
Minnetonka - 3
Hopkins - 2

even without penalties they aren't the same caliber team as minnetonkaLopresti wrote:Fons has had a great year, but if he plays like he did thursday night, the Royals will go home feeling Blue. The team that stays out of the penalty box should win. Hopkins really got ignited thursday when Zata took multiple penalties in the 3rd period. Will be a fast, good-skating game.
Maybe because they beat them 5-1 just last week, and it could have been a lot worse??????DasCondor wrote:overlooked wayzata? hahah dont think so, why would they overlook a team they had tied earlier in the season?Circles wrote:Hopkins with the upset........this is the game they've been waiting for, they overlooked Wayzata, but managed to hang on, they will be ready for this one.
3-1.
Its a pretty well known phenomenon in collegiate and lower level sports- when a team has a big game on the schedule they under-perform the game before and also the game after if they pull the upset or come close(hangover effect). Hopkins was almost caught looking ahead to Minnetonka, but they will be ready this time and it will be a great game no matter who ends up on top.
It just sounds funny hearing Hopkins might have been overlooking somebody in hockey playoffs. maybe USA was overlooking USSR in preparation for Finland and should have won 6-3?Circles wrote:Hopkins with the upset........this is the game they've been waiting for, they overlooked Wayzata, but managed to hang on, they will be ready for this one.

Tonka versus Hopkins
This is the ultimate match up in this section. Can Hopkins score, we know both have stud goalies, it is up to Hopkins ablilty to score against Tonka. The edge has to go for Tonka's first line.
If we can learn anything from the CDH girls team this year it's that anything can happen in sections. As much as Minnetonka should be favored (although I don't think it should be much given the season split) it would imho be foolish to expect Minnetonka to roll Hopkins. All it takes is one stellar goalie performance, one bad bounce, one penalty and/or one stellar individual effort to create a goal to win or lose a game.
