D10 Peewee A playoffs

Post by frederick61 »

I have a question. Coon Rapids has won the regular season championship and a guarnateed seed. If they win the playoffs, it turns the other teams entered into a double elimination. This works as long as they win their first three games. If they lose, then teams with one loss are eliminated. For example, the quarterfinal losers are not knocked out until Coon Rapids loses or they lose twice.

Do I have this right?

Frederick61 - you do have this correct.

So essentially this is a single elimination tournament, UNLESS Coon Rapids wins the Tournament.
The same goes for St. Cloud on the Bantam A side of things.

The winner of the tournament championship game is the #1 seed to regions and the league champ goes as #2,according to the D10 handbook.
If some other than Coon Rapids wins the Championship, the remaining game is played for the trophy and medals, even if Coon Rapids is in that game. This is not a true double elimination bracket. The champion will have no loses and the 2nd place team will have 1 loss.

The #1 seed is not locked until a team wins the championship game. Everybody in the tournament has a shot to go as #1.

Greybeard58, thanks for the data. I believe the #1 seed matters for D10 this year because the #1 will likely play Virginia, Duluth East and Hermantown and the #2 seed will likely play Cloquet, Hibbing and Grand Rapids. The #1 seed has better chance of advancing out of pool play then the #2 seed.
