Warroad no doubt has great hockey tradition.
The new transfer and recruiting rules will not help the tradition.

Go to roseau rams web site they have the history on the right hand side. I believe Warroad has a great hockey tradition if you take out a few years when all the recruting was going on then I would question it, to bad there is good people there that have really contributed to Hockey as a whole but a few bad apples have taken something away from that. Good point though with the new transfer rules.

warroad should be playing in AA why they are not i dont know..?

Warroad has been the better team over the past 20 years yet roso looks like they are the better team.

Over the last 20 years the record vs Roseau is something like 26-20 in favor of Warroad...i'll make that wish.

Are you sure about that?? I think a little town to your west has produce quite a few more? Or is it because Roseau has a whopping population of 3000+- they have produced less per capita!

I do agree though, nobody should question Warroad's hockey tradition. They are right up there with the best.

SB24,

Didn't Henry Boucha play in the Olympics, or was he a member of the USA team in a non Olympic year? I remember seeing him play in a game in TRF with the USA team. I don't remember Hangsleben as an Olympian, but I could be mistaken. I have always associated McKinnon with Williams High School, but there again, I'm not positive. I know he was a Laker, but I don't think he was a Warrior.

I'm just going off memory as well, but as far as i know McKinnon was from Warroad and Hangsleben was an Olympian as well. Also, I believe Boucha competed in a non-Olypmics year. I think Roger, and Gordon Christian competed in both the '56 and '60 Olympics, not sure the years for Billy.

Well, regardless of the exact number of Olympians from each town, it's obvious that Roseau and Warroad both have deep roots in Minnesota's rich hockey tradition. The fact that they are only 20 miles apart and are rivals on so many different fronts makes this a unique situation. I work at Marvin Windows in Warroad. Some of my best friends are Warroadites and we enjoy friendly banter and always hope for bragging rights after every meeting on the ice! I believe Roseau hockey would be missing something without Warroad next door.

Jump into the AA pool, Warroad. The water's fine!

That's it in a nutshell 71. I agree, Warroad should go AA, but on the same token, I know the feeling I got from playing in the A tournament. I'm not sure I would've given that up. Its a tough call and there are positives and negatives both ways. Maybe it is the right thing to do to give as many kids possible the experience of playing in the tournament. Sure the fans can come on here and down play it, but the high a kid gets in the A tournament is the same high he gets in the AA tournament.
Like I said, its a tough call both ways. Purely from a fan standpoint, i'd like to see them go AA, but thats just a fan.

Warroad has good hockey tradition. They have there up and down years like any small town, but over the long hall I would say they have a good track record of performance. How often in the last 30 years have they finished the season in the top 20 or even the top 10? I would say probably most of them. Now some might say that top 10 in class A isn't the same, but some of those teams such as when Wyatt Smith and Oshie were playing would compete with the best in AA. One of the reasons Roseau is good year after year is because we want to beat our rivals from Warroad. I hope Warroad can keep its youth program strong so the rivalry continues to be competitive. It seems youth hockey in Warroad is down a bit this year.

a little off base but what about world juniors? i know warroad has had four players involved with world juniors, how many from roseau? warroads are:

For some reason youth hockey in Warroad has never been as competitive as its HS teams, don't worry, they'll be fine by the time they reach HS.

Thought i'd clear things up a bit. Hangsleben was not an olympian, he did however, play in the NHL. Boucha did play in the Olympics...silver in '76 perhaps?
