This is actually a topic worthy of intelligent debate. It's not a ridiculous idea, and it's actually one that sounds like may become a reality. Back to the subject, I have a question. How many AA schools in each section, and how many A schools? If there's 8 sections with 10 teams each, and you play each of those schools once, doesn't that only account for 10 games? Which in turn would leave you the scheduling options that each team wants. Am I way off base about this? Or do some sections have 15-20 teams? I think the idea is to have each section member in the same class play each other once during the regular season in order to have a true section seeding.

But don't forget teams also have to play their conference schedule, some of which may also be not the ideal competition.

Unless mandated by the powers that be I dont think you will ever see the traditional powers play many teams that don't play an A youth hockey schedule.

I think that's where the debate began. Maybe getting rid of conferences and going by sections.

Conferences are not just for hockey, they are for all sports for the schools involved. They are guarranteed games and school rivalries year in and year out.

Why doesn't GR just go independent and then they can play anyone they want since they have that one Eveleth game thats getting your feathers ruffled. Whats up with only 24 games on their schedule?

Didn't you read the thread I posted to you about St. Cloud Tech's schedule? There are mnay more teams like that, escpecially when you get to the bigger conferences in the Metro area.

Your teams schedule:

7 conference games
6 section games
11 non conference-non section games

You have 1 game to fill yet and your AD could easily add Andover to the schedule. Call him and ask why GR doesn't play them. GR at least has the luxury of scheduling a dozen games with who ever they want. Most teams don't have that may games to get the competition they want.

Like hockeywatcher said, they might look at extending the number of games, but regardless, the additional number of section games wouldn't be infeasible since each team already has a good portion already on their schedule. So, when standings and more importantly section seedings come out, there is no guess work, or looking at common opponents, or bias decisions, just head to head results for every team.

BAD IDEA!! Some of these schools schedules and rivalries have been going for years! scheduling is tough and most schools do very little tweeking on it. Not only would this effect hockey but all sports. sec 8AA and 8A are huge geographically. Imagine moorhead having to drop warroad from thier schedule? Most years this is a great game! Furthermore is there anygood to come out of a Warroad / bagley game? How about Wadena having to travel all the way to warroad to get kicked year in and year out 10-1 ect. I say keep the mnhsl out of it and let the local boards decide. The local bds are more capable of handling these type of things than the mnhsl are. REMEMBER THE BEST GOVERNMENT IS LESS GOVERNMENT!

GR3343 wrote:With a 25 to 30 game schedule, and only 8-10 section opponents, section being defined by class & region, what's the big deal? EGF can still play their cross town rivals, GR can still play Greenway, Roseau can still play Farmington  , and ALL would still improve their schedule. It would make for a more compelling finish come section playoffs.
