Can be both, it's almost unavoidable if you want volunteers.Statsman101Rules wrote:What do ya think, is this Good or Bad for youth programs

Agreed, if their number one priority is for the sport, for developing the whole program, and being able to see the big picture and consequences of short-term decisions vs. long term decisions. It can be a very good thing. Can't Never Tried wrote:Can be both, it's almost unavoidable if you want volunteers.Statsman101Rules wrote:What do ya think, is this Good or Bad for youth programs
The problem is when the number 1 priority is being in a position where you can advocate for policies or positions that directly and consistently benefit one's own kid.

On paper this looks good. The only references I can think of are Lakeville who have parent coaches/board members and Edin Prarie who do not. I've heard that the Lakeville situations are not optimal to say the least. Parents are not happy and the parent coaches show so much favoratism to their own kids..... The EP program does not allow parent/board member coaches and they seem to do things right. Kids/parents on the whole are happy. I don't think Wyazata has parent coaches either..........

All depends on the age group and level of play.nahc wrote:On paper this looks good. The only references I can think of are Lakeville who have parent coaches/board members and Edin Prarie who do not. But I think non-parent coaches are the best at the PeeWee A level and above if at all possible
