Hmm---How do you explain Matt Niskinens success? He stayed home and played with friends on a decent Virginia team. They certainly didn't make it to state every year. If your D1 material, you will be "found". Open enrollment has been totally dissed from its original intention. People have to be willing to look at the big picture!

It hurts that I Falls doesn't have Hjelle. That was a huge loss for them and coming down the stretch it is starting to show. What does everyone think the seeding will look like after tonight's win by Hibbing?

What a year this is turning out to be! 7AA is a clustered mess for seeding, and now with Hibbing's win over I Falls, the stage is set for a potential mess in 7A.

Here are the key 7A games remaining for the top seeds:
Friday
Virginia @ Greenway

Monday
I Falls @ Greenway

Tuesday
Duluth Marshall @ Virginia

Friday (Feb. 8)
Greenway @ Hibbing

Tuesday (Feb. 12)
Hibbing @ Virginia

What would be the scenario if Virginia pulls off the mini-upset over Duluth Marshall? (Remember I Falls has a section loss now). What if Virginia also beat Hibbing again? Could they get the #1 seed? How about if Hibbing wins that final game? How high do they go? What about Marshall? How far do they fall with a loss? The only one of the top seeded teams they would have a win against is Hibbing (unless you throw in Greenway). What if Greenway pulls off the upset over I Falls - they almost did it on the road earlier this year! Ahh... its gonna be an exciting finish to the season. I believe, now more than ever, that the section is wide open to any of the top four teams with Greenway not too far behind.

Just for fun, check out this circle of games:
... Hibbing beat I Falls,
I Falls beat Denfeld,
Denfeld beat Warroad,
Warroad beat Marshall,
Marshall beat Hermantown,
Hermantown beat Cloquet,
Cloquet beat Duluth East,
Duluth East beat Grand Rapids,
Grand Rapids beat Virginia,
Virginia beat Hibbing ...

... and the circle is complete. There can be many variations to that circle as well. On any given night, its anyone's game. Can you say wide open?

It should be interesting and fun down the stretch!!

PuckRanger, isn't the Feb. 8 matchup between Hibbing and Greenway in Hibbing?

Yes, it is. I've corrected that in my above post. My fingers go faster than my head sometimes.

I have been saying it all along. Watch out for Hibbing. I believe in my mind the best representative for State from Section7 is Duluth Marshall. I have seen all the teams from Section 7 and have seen the top seeds play enough to see in my mind that DM is the deepest and has better defense and goaltending then the others. I Falls is who I want because I can,t get enough of watching Youso play. I also believe the Falls has 3 good lines its just defensively and in the nets they can,t compare. Hibbing has the 1 line and we all know they are famous for being on at playoff time and have done it before having a record similar to what they have now. Virginia is also a team you cant count out. Bottom line if I falls would not have lost Hjelle I,d have considered this a dead heat between I Falls and DM. Whats been great for me is seeing all the great teams in Single A this year. Theres not a ton of difference between these top teams and its been shown lately with everyone clipping off everyone else. I expected it and love great hackey. Heres the teams I feel are so closely matched and I believe could make the trip to State. I,ll also list my two picks. DM, I falls, Hermantown, Denfeld, SCC followed closely by Hibbing and Virginia. My 2 picks are and have been all along DM from Sec 7 and I,m going to go with Hermantown out of Sec 5. I chose the best two skating teams top to bottom. As far as seeding wow lots can still happen. Hey I know this was a section 7 thread but I threw in my thoughts on 5 as well.
Do I have to shadow Pavelich again coach?

The top teams based on my twisted logic...

IFalls, Hibbing
followed by Greenway with Eveleth as the dark horse.

Now, pay attention.

Falls and Hibbing, good teams and traditional range powers.
Greenway should be a range power...
Eveleth used to be a range power...

Virginia... they should have never gone to state and should not go back...that's just the way it is.... just ask Pat Forte's father... (sorry Dave H.)

Duluth Marshall... come on , there from Duluth.

So barring an upset, it will come down to IFalls and Hibbing.

They still wouldn't go anywhere, just like any other year.
