It wouldn't surprise me.gopher9 wrote:boblee wrote:Here is what I have seen, in my honest opinion:
Stillwater
Eden Prairie
Roseville
Grand Rapids/Greenway
Edina
Hopkins
Centennial
Irondale
Elk River
That is just AA and not in order, but in two groups. Edina leads the charge in the second group.
So Bob lee you mean to tell me that you have seen every one of these teams play?

I don't usually comment on polls, but this one is particularly crappy. The top 4 is OK, you could put them in any order, but after that this makes little sense.
Edit:
Never mind. It's done by one guy and he probably wanted to be representative of a few strong conferences in the metro--2 from SubEast, 2 from Classic Lake, 2 from NWSuburban. It's a tough job.

Its a metro poll. It makes no sense to even have one. I don't see an outstate poll anywhere. Why? Because if teams are excluded because they are or aren't metro it doesn't matter. Either way some of the best hockey teams are excluded.Bensonmum wrote:I don't usually comment on polls, but this one is particularly crappy. Agree. This would be like a "metro" poll of Big-10 NCAA football teams. There's no need to pander to the metro teams.State Champ 97 wrote:Its a metro poll. It makes no sense to even have one. I'm sure it's because most of their readership is in the Metro area. And another factor might be that it's difficult for the writer to see a lot of the outstate teams, which makes it hard to compare them to the teams here. Not that the writer necessarily goes to many metro games anyway...it looks like his rankings are based mostly on the teams' records.

Why would you post the most meaningless of polls twice in the same thread on the same day?MNHockeyFan wrote:Here is the latest version of the Pioneer Press Metro Poll:

Are Elk River and Stillwater concidered "Metro"? Hmm, guess the "Metro" is what you make it?State Champ 97 wrote:Its a metro poll. It makes no sense to even have one. Its more of a shot at the newspaper. Than people that look at the poll.MNHockeyFan wrote:The entire thread is devoted to Metro rankings. I know I am, confused that is. Great idea, do a northern pole and lets see how many finish a head of the metro poles in the end? Alexandria and Grand Rapids could, to say nothing short of Duluth, Cloquet, Bemidji, Crookston, Warraod, Roseau, in no particular order. Elk River maybe, but I guess we can't have them in both poles. Oh yeah isn't Forest Lake a northern team also, or are they metro? That one is more confusing than Elk River.hockeyheaven wrote:That sounds great! I think you’re really on to something here...... or you’re just on something.
However if that were to happen ....those poor folks up in Elk River will be sooo confused

When you think of the Metro area, you think of the seven surrounding counties, the "Seven County Metro Area" which I believe the U.S. considers for population figures, etc. I know some of the outlying towns (exurbs?) are outside of these 7 counties, like Elk River is in Sherboune, but yet they are considered for these Twin Cities' newspaper polls. And then you have places like St. Cloud, Chisago Lakes, Cambridge...not Twin Cities but not Northern Minnesota either...if they deserved consideration, which poll would they be in?hockeyrube7 wrote:I know I am, confused that is. I'm just having fun with this. Yet if you want to rate the "Metro" wouldn't you want to also divide the rest of the state and do the same? I have no preference, it all means nothing for the most part. A lot of these teams will knock each other off prior to state just like every other year, and the only pole that really matters is how they finish. Only one can end a winner, or in this case I guess 6 in total.

Not sure if you are kidding or not, but there is that Freedom of the Press thingie which of course gives them the right to publish their own poll. We should keep in mind that these polls are just opinions and we are in turn free to state our own opinions on whether they are accurate, ridiculous, or somewhere in between.GOCARDS1 wrote:I think the Pioneer Press should be banned from being able to do rankings. They are ridiculous.
As to this poll and the latest StarTribune poll just above, I think there are flaws in each, but again this is just my opinion. Based on what I've seen (and not seen) plus their records, strength of schedule and how good the Metro teams appear to be playing at this point in the season, I'll take a shot at it here:
1. Roseville
2. Eden Prairie
3. Blake
4. Edina
5. Stillwater
6. Hopkins
7. Centennial
8. Benilde-St. Margaret's
9. Holy Angels
10. Eagan
Also receiving votes: Hill-Murray, Wayzata, White Bear Lake, Eastview, Elk River and Breck.
