Not to pick you apart, bob, I just happened to notice this because I just was doing some research for the Virginia/Greenway game tonight. But, actually, Greenway lost to Proctor last Tuesday 5-4 in overtime. Before that, they beat Silver Bay 12-2. They won last Thursday 9-4 over Two Harbors and then again on Saturday 5-1 over Wadena. So they've won 3 of their last four (two in a row) and in their wins they outscored their opponents 26-7.boblee wrote:Thursday:

The Thunderhawk-Raider line is very rarely more than a couple goals. Grand Rapids played a very close game with a gritty Raiders squad and will be fighting hard on Thursday. Greenway has won three straight with a combined victory of 26-6. Grand Rapids will find a way to win however, but the Raider senior class will keep it close.

What metro club will be bounced from 7AA when Denfield/Central combine for 2008?
Thanks!

On the strength of schedule, I was just using the numbers Lee posted around New Year's. I have since made my own crude schedule-strength system, which involves assigning a number between 1 and 5 to each team's opponent.
5-AA powers (Edina, East, Cloquet, Rapids, Centennial, Blaine, etc).
4-very strong AA teams and top A teams (Marshall, Anoka, Hopkins, etc. The AA teams, though strong this year, do not have the historical reputations of the 5s)
3-average AA teams, above average A teams (Denfeld, Elk River, Forest Lake, Hastings, etc.)
2-below average AA, average A (North Metro Stars, SSP, Bemidji, etc.)
1-Duluth Central, Ashland.
The totals of the top 4 teams:
East 101
Rapids 87
Cloquet 85
Anoka 79
If you really want to see more of this, I'll post it. It's not great, but it's a simple way to determine strength of schedule.

Thanks for the reminder, karl, I just updated that page. "Grand Rapids at Bemidji
The Line: Grand Rapids by 3
Grand Rapids has been a roller coaster much like the Greyhounds have been. Bemidji is coming off of being trounced by Roseau. The Thunderhawks are coming off of a very disappointing loss to Hibbing. Grand Rapids has won the last two meetings 7-3 and 5-1. They will continue beating Bemidji and start off a great week with a nice win."
I was right on this one. Grand Rapids covers the spread.

"Duluth East at Forest Lake
The Line: Duluth East by 2
I expect East to get the job done in one of their biggest games of the season. They have played brilliant at times and awful at others. They will not play their best game, but they will win."
East covers the spread. Apparently didn't struggle much.
"Cloquet at Duluth Marshall
The Line: Duluth Marshall by 1
Cloquet always seems to play Duluth Marshall very tough. It is a huge conference game and CEC will be looking to get back on track. With that said, DM has been playing very will and will find a way to win this one. Experienced goaltending will prevail."
Duluth Marshall covers spread. Empty net goal gives them two goal win.
"North Metro Stars at Anoka
The Line: Anoka by 3
Anoka has one of the best first lines in the state. North Metro isn't the worst team in the state, but they aren't anything to write home about. Anoka will get the win, and it may be ugly, but they will do it. Anoka will pick up momentum heading towards Grand Rapids."
Anoka covers spread.
I was 4/4 today.

Nothing surprising tonight. Rapids and Anoka delivered about what was expected, while East had an impressive win over Forest Lake. They're essentially one win away from the #1 seed now, though we all know that win over Cloquet will be a tough one to get. Cloquet's performance tonight was mildly disappointing, but they played a decent game against Marshall and are rather good at causing problems for East.

Calm it down. I was never saying I was amazing or anything like that. There just seemed to be about three people who offered up opinions on all the games this week. I was keeping tabs on mine. They can and should do the same.
Also, by posting if I got them right or not, I was tossing the results up.

What about the PS2 line which says Rapids by 3.8? Over or under?boblee wrote:"Greenway at Grand Rapids

I mean, you're both setting the line and then betting on it, which I'm still trying to figure out.

I'm actually doing neither. I am just giving what I feel the line should be (in my opinion only), then giving my two cents on the game. Very few of these would be accurate in Veags, nor would I bet in most of these. As for the 3.8, Rapids covered that too.east hockey wrote:What about the PS2 line which says Rapids by 3.8? Maybe an interesting competition would be to let either PS2 (which would give a +/- goals on the game) or PS3 (which would give a percentage favorite, setting up a situation where you'd bet a certain amount to win a certain amount) set the "line" in certain games.
On the other hand, I'm tired of doing what I'm already doing this year. I'm burned out and we're still nearly a month away from section playoffs.
I need a vacation and that's still eight weeks away. Grrrrr.

The Line: Anoka by 2
For as rough of a season that Elk River has had, they have played very tough in section games including a big win over Duluth East, a team that Anoka lost too. However, Anoka beat Champlin Park and Elk River couldn't pull out the win over the Rebels. The Tornadoes will win and set up a huge game in Grand Rapids on Saturday."
Anoka holds serve and wins by two to set up a big game in Rapids on Saturday.
