Just posing a guess here, probably following along a line similar to Warroad. Not enough bodies to choose from. They field a contending A team while fielding a competitive AA team. There's a difference.
Exactly and since Hibbing hasn't been to the state tournament in three years, you would then have to pose the same question to Hermantown, Virginia, and Duluth Marshall. These four teams have been all been competetive with the AA teams in the area for years, but have all been contending for state tournament births in 7A (or 2A/5A) or even state championships every year. I'm not sure any of them would have gotten out of 7AA - or even to the semi-finals for that matter in recent years.

Isn't GR eligible or close to being eligible to compete a the 'A' level.

Grand Rapids, Duluth East, and Cloquet are all eligible for class A.

Piper Sniper: if you live in the Grand Rapids or Hibbing Area you can tune into the game on Either 1320 AM KOZY For the Grand Rapids announcers or 106.3 FM WMFG for the Hibbing Announcers.

I won't have much tonight. I need to head out of here about 8:00 p.m.

As I noted earlier, Underwood is in goal for GR.

Any idea on Hibbing's starter?

if they stick to the Rotation it would be Sandstrom in the nets with Larson having played tuesday vs Denfeld.

it was awesome jamnick put it in and the ref called it no goal, then one player from rapids got it and went down on prety much an empty net cause everyone was cellabrating and the refs talked and called it a goal

the ending was: the Gr goalie was pulled decenzo flipped the puck out of the hibbing zone. jamnick picked it up and hit the lower right corner of the net scoring with the puck bouncing out hibbing skates down to celabrate with there bench. while hibbing is celebrating a GR player takes the puck and skates the length of the ice the hibbing goalie is congragulating his team and the Rapids player just slips the puck in. Aggter that the refs were pretty much in mass confusion as were the rest of us. (i never heard the whistle affter jamnicks goal)

This surprises me. I thought Rapids was turning a corner, had figured themselves out, and were riding high after the Cloquet win. Perhaps a bit too high. They need to regroup, especially with a huge section game coming up next weekend.
