Championship:
EP Red ties Fargo Flyers 0-0, Fargo wins shootout (terrible way to resolve a tourney game) 1-0. Great game. Fargo goalie had 52 saves in 5 on 5 play (3 periods and 1 five minute OT), and all 5 in OT. EP goalie had 27 saves in his shutout and saved all but one trickler in the shootout.
Pretty sure you misinterpreted my post. My statement on resolution of tourney games was solely my opinion on shootouts regardless of who wins. I get the reason and need for them completely, still don't like them. I would rather see the games decided 5 on 5 or 4 on 4. Just a preference. These were both great games to watch regardless.
shootouts
Shootouts are great entertainment for the players and fans in games that do not matter, but not the best way to go for a championship to be decided.
A few years ago Edina White Pewees took the Edina Christmas tourney to 5 OT's.... That was as good as it gets

It's WAY too early to be talking tiebreakers for D6 Bantam B . . .esepcially since there are lots of games amongst teams right next to each other coming up.wildthing wrote:Does anyone know what the tie breaker is?

DISTRICT 6 PLAYOFF RULES
16. TEAM PARTICIPATION AND TIE BREAKERS
16.2 In case of a tie for any position in the final league standings, district seeding will be determined by applying the following criteria in order of definition:
16.2.1 Head to head competition among the tied teams, determined by points (2 for a win, 1 for a tie, 1 Fair Play point). The position of each team is determined in order of highest total point count, regardless of the number of times the tied teams met in league play.
16.2.2 Most wins in League play.
16.2.3 Fewest losses in League play.
16.2.4 Most Fair Play points earned in League play.
16.2.5 Largest goal differential among tied teams. (six goal max per game).
16.2.6 Greatest quotient; goal for divided by goals against among the tied teams.
16.2.7 Largest goal differential for all league play. (six goal max per game).
16.2.8 Greatest quotient, goals for divided by goals against for all league play.
16.2.9 Flip of a coin done by league official in the presence of the District Director.
When a position has been determined by the criteria in 1-5, and there are at least two teams remaining in a tied condition, then the tie breaking criteria will be reinitiated among the remaining teams.

D6 Results
Tonka 3 Apple Valley 0
A win is a win. AV coach received a game misconduct. Not sure why exactly...I think he was unhappy about something.

Any win in D6 is a good win. Keep it up Tonka.

coach was ejected because....
I saw it...my son plays on AV...
I think he truly was tired of the endless number of non-calls
( granted no one see's them all , not all warrant a call,...blah blah )
but to me ( a 34 year veteran of hockey games )
these penalty callers took a night off and let the
word interference slip from their vocabulary.....
tonka would win 10 of these match ups in a row...
but where is the consistency on how a game is called....???
it's lost....
Watched many districts......but 6 is stumping me with game
after game - where only 1 type of penalty is called....
one game is head contact, head contact, rough , head contact
next game is hold, hold , rough , hold
sure a clear trip is called....
but interference ? have these guys watched the nhl and the new rules ?
always a great game....

NoConsistancy-It appears to me that some of your players are taking on the personality of your coach. I agree with you about the refs in the game. There were several interference calls that weren't made. What was with the stick to the neck choking holds? I think #17 should try out for your wrestling team. Coaches need to hold kids responsible for their actions, but when he is thrown out of the game, I guess that is hard to do.

D6 officiating
I don't know how players and coaches know what is allowed and not allowed in D6. The variation game to game is wide. I think it is something the district needs to address. It has been this way for the 9 years I have been watching my sons play D6 teams.

are you kidding me ? #17 choking a kid probably occured shortly afterKOHO wrote:NoConsistancy-It appears to me that some of your players are taking on the personality of your coach. he was elbowed in the face....
again tonka great team - probably the winner of D6 in my book,
but why is it - the good teams get away with almost every elbow,
every hands to the face,
tonka had 2 penalties called for the entire game...
a bantam game...
i know #17 - he is a very happy very nice kid,
but you only take so many pokes before even
the pope would atleast reply with words....
I will say that Tonka plays a clean game in comparison to many others,
Edina White - has a thug #6 that has 6 majors this year.
jfyi> AV had 44 kids for Bantam's total...
our coach said "BullShot" to the ref - that was the ejection
and that was while he had to lean over the boards and yell down
to the score box - because the ref would not even go over and explain
why a kid was able to walk right into the goalie - when 2 of our players
were on the ice with tonka kids ontop of them...
it was a double pick play....nicely executed.....but it's also called interference in the rule books....
our coach is a great guy who loves kids and wanted to just know if
they saw it ( if they didn't see it - nothing can be said )
and jfyi - we have 2 1st year bantam b's that are 4' tall - so any hint
that we are a goon team is simply hilarious.....
and those refs
I didn't say you were a "goon team" what I said is "It appears to me that some of your players are taking on the personality of your coach". I know nothing about your team or your coach but if last night was any indication of how you played all year then it explains your record. If last night was an exception to how you normally play then I appologize.
Jfyi, I think what happened is when your #17 checked the kid in the middle of the ice and ended up on his butt and hurt he was ticked off that it happened. Then later in the game #17 was on top of our kid, play was in your zone, and was holding him down jamming his stick into his throat out of anger (as the ref skated right by). I am sure he is a nice kid but you ask him and I am sure he will tell you.
Good day to you, and hope you make it to playoffs.

A point of view
Brothers of the board:
I think we are better to focus on aspects of our kids' game that don't include references to specific players, their numbers or their behavior.
Reasonable people can view the same game and see different aspects or issues, personal frustration notwithstanding.

Woodstick,
I will see if I can track you down a copy. You will be disappointed though...the buzzer went off when the puck was just inside the hash marks. Its on video....I will contact you in the next several days if I can get my hand on a copy for you.
In my 40 years of hockey, that was the most bizarre finish ever! I was the scorekeeper. The referee told me that the game doesn't end until the buzzer FINISHES going off! The referee admitted that the buzzer had sounded before the puck went in, but that it is when it finishes sounding is when the game is over.
I am one of the most supportive of those who wear the stripes, but can anyone out there tell me when the rules changed to "the game does not end when the buzzer goes off, but when the buzzer stops sounding." (in this case the buzzer sounded for approximately five-seven seconds). Outside of that, the refs called a good game.
Final shots were 43 to 11. Your team showed up and hustled all night long.
