To the best of my recollection(which is pretty poor these days)the teams played in the mid to late '80s at the IRC Classic Christmas tourney hosted by Greenway & Grand Rapids. Not a clue on exact year or score.

Are you going to update that site as the game is in progress? This will be one I have to miss.

Thanks, boblee.

Thanks, boblee.
Yes. It will not be the live feature however. It isn't on online radio and I will not be there. But as always I have a statistics guy at the game that will feed me the info right after it happens and i'll toss it on the website.

Disagree that it's do or die time. Still time to get things going in the right direction. I recall the '88 state tourney team getting to St. Paul when they were at or near .500 at the end of January. They got things rolling and stayed hot at the right time. Pretty tough to pin the season on the outcome of a mid January game. Still thinking Rapids forward lines will find the net pretty often on Sat.
GR3343, the 88 team and todays team are night and day. The 88 team beats todays version 9 out of 10. They had NHL talent. Not the case today. I am not suggesting the season be pinned at the outcome of one game. December in Edina should have given you some indication of where we are headed - no need to wait until as you say "mid January"... Man I am with ya, love to see them win. Just feel we got a team of boys amongst a league of men with this squad. Thats all. Lets hope Housley is the head case it is being reported to be and we will throw up a "W". Its goinna take more than talent alone, I am afraid.

I don't see the need to panic yet. I thought GR had a pretty good showing against Edina in December.
If Rapids had beat East last night I sure wouldn't have written off the Hounds.
Keep working. It sounds redundant, but I've seen it before.
They will be ready come late Feb.

I see many similarities in the '88 team and this year's group. I disagree the '88 team would win 9 of 10. There were two players that saw NHL time from that team(Marinucci and Jon Rohloff) otherwise, there was a lot of players that were either young and inexperienced, or solid role players. It's yet to be determined if any on this year's squad will ever touch the NHL, just as it was then, but this group has the same feel as they did. Underappreciated, overmatched, not supposed to do anything, but full of heart, soul, and great goaltending. Look for Underwood to carry this team down the stretch and for the Indians to shock the crap out of all the haters.

I am friends with quite a few of the '88 team, and I'm sure that many of them would have my back on this and would surely tell you there's very much talent on this team as well.

ALSECORD wrote:Stillwater.. Are you kidding me?? They may, at this juncture be the worst team in their already very average conference. Housley isn't getting it done folks.. Rapids 5-1

Are you just a coach killer or what? You where on here blasting Russ Welch too last time I checked Housley hasn't suited up for the Ponies. They have 2 very good sophmore goalies that are gaining confidence every game it's just a matter of time before everything clicks. Stillwater will be right in the middle of the SEC conference at the end of the season, which is one of the toughest in the State. Just watch as Flake takes section 7AA, Roseville taking 4AA and Woodbury taking 3AA. That would be some kind of record 3 teams from the same conference making it to state.

ALSECORD was a hack and is still a bum.
Flake might be pushing it a bit, but roseville and woodbury both have reasonable shots at a section chamiponship, particularly woodbury

It wouldn't be the first time a Greenway goalie has carried Rapids to the promised land.

That goal was with 1 second left. I believe the 5th time Rapids has done that this year.

stillwater must be terrible, as sorry boblee, you guys are not that good either, and please don't say again you had an off night against the hounds.
I never said Rapids had an off night against East. However, GR is not a bad hockey team.
