I thought this thread was 'best players ever for your favorite school'. This list looks more like it's players from a variety of schools.

Good call. Phil was one of the best, but had a hard time remaining eligible.

The only problem with this list is that some players are from before there were two high schools in White Bear and one (Jeff Larson) from when there were two schools (Mariner and White Bear).

All except Butters, Goheen, Baker and Larson are from when they combined back to one high school in the '83-84 school year.

Grew up in Cloquet? How is that? His dad was an assistant coach for Mahtomedi when they went to the Tier 2 State Tournament in 1992. Tim Hambley graduated from White Bear in 2001 and played Bantams in White Bear - meaning he did grow up in Bear land.

My one favorite player is tough to pick. Mike Antonovich was the most
creative and clever player; but, Mick Metzer was a bulldog in the
corners. I have yet to see anyone who can go into the corner and dig
out the puck like he could.
I,d like to have seen Metzer as these players are so important to a teams success! The best corner player I have ever seen play high school hockey here in MN is Matt Niskanen. He always came out with the puck.
Do I have to shadow Pavelich again coach?

Like was said, they blossomed after HS. They were very good players, no doubt, but most of their success came afterward.

Oh wow...embarrasing.

I was thinking of Scott, his dad. Oops.

Oh that's weird Scott coached at Mahtomedi, I had no idea.

Where on this thread does it indicate that they should be the best players ever from your high school during high school????
Simply put, Joel Otto might be the best to ever come out of Elk River because of who he was as a person, not the youth hockey and high school teams.

The same could be said for Shjon Podein of JM. Not very good in high school, but the work ethic to go from average to a nice long NHL career - and that my friends should be noted no matter when the success happened. Of course JM takes some credit for his success - as they should - by retiring his number.

Otto and Hinote deserve the same respect for ER.

I agree with everything up until retiring Otto and Hinote... If Bloomington Jefferson did that same thing then they would have no numbers left as they have many players with decent careers in NHL.
