EGF or Grand Forks ND

I need some help. I have got a new job and will be moving North. I am currently in the Twin Cities and with a new job My wife and I will be moving. I was looking for help on where to live as I got a new job in Grand Forks, but I would like to stay in Minnesota. Off course I want to do whats best for my 3 kids. All 3 of them play hockey, but that is the 2nd most important thing. Most important is their education. My wife does not work and she is very involved in the Church and community. We want the best fit for our entire family.

So my question is should I stay in Minnesota where I can be a resident for hunting, fishing and my boys can play in the state or is Grand Forks a better situatrion up their? Please help

Also, I dont think I have ever seen any AAA teams from that area, My boys love hockey and would like to find a team to play on in the off season. Is there any AAA hockey teams up North?

Both cities have strong rec programs and support hockey. The MN side gives you more but the ND state HS tourney is very exciting, televised etc.. I like the MN side better because it is bigger. I am biased.

If it were me, I would look at all the school options and base it on the one I felt most strongly about.

Depends on your definition. There are a lot of off-season hockey activity available to both sides of the river. The AAA options may require more driving. TRF has a good program.

I think it depends on how old your boys are? If they are in the squirt to Bantam age I would say send them to the Minnesota side of the river their teams have seemed to handle Grand Forks at those level but the younger levels below squirts it could be a toss up. Good luck in your decision.

The mites and Squirts in GF are private teams and hard to get on to, so I would make sure that there is room somewhere before making that decision. Yes, Coach Eades does help out quite a bit in the program which is a big plus. I think that both programs have good coaches and good philosophys in place, although I am a little biased toward one of them . If you need any extra information, shoot me a message.

As far as AAA summer teams, there are quite a few. The Red River mudsharks are based out of EGF. Dakota Stars, Dakota Predators, Jr. Sioux, Metro Grizzlies, Minnkota Stars are based out of the GF/Fargo area. There are also teams in Roseau/Warroad, TRF and alot of kids go up to Canada to play. Alot of options, basically if you want to play there is a team for you.

You would have a hard time finding a better state for hunting and fishing then north dakota. You can always pay and hunt Minnesota as a non resident but it is hard to big game hunt in North Dakota as a non resident.
can you play hockey in EGF and live in Grand Forks? That would be the best of both worlds.

The out of state hunting license is very expensive even with reciprocity and unless you own land it is very hard in ND and MN. The state land isn't much and is way overhunted. Very good ducks and geese though, if you can get permission. You can live in GF and play in EGF if GF will release you (until HS) GF highschools would prefer that you play in the GF system though.

How many rinks are in Grand Forks area? Do you practice everyday? Any off Ice programs? I will be up there in a couple weeks to check everything out.

EGF has two arenas, the Civic Center and the VFW Arena. We are working on a third, the Blue Line Arena, should have that up and running next fall. We have three ourdoor rinks, Nash, Stauss and a new one they are putting up on the south end.

GF has 4 city owned arenas, Purpur, Gambucci, Eagles, and Blue Line Club. There are also the 2 sheets at Ralph Engelstad Arena. There are outdoor rinks as pretty much every elementary school, University and Riverside Parks.

We don't practice everyday right now, we have an ice shortage but that should be fixed with the third sheet. Wednesdays are mostly open hockey for the various levels.

I like living in Minnesota but if I were in your shoes I'd choose North Dakota because their state government doesn't take the Communist amount of taxes that MN does. This way you'll have enough money after April 15th to apply to your kid's hockey future!

What they don't take in income tax, they leave for the county and city to take for your property tax. GF has almost double the property tax that EGF does and having lived on both sides of the river, the GF residents don't get back nearly in services for what they pay.
