Nick nitti was the head coach of mounds view for about 5 years I think. He was replaced 3 years ago. As far as games go, I know they scrimmaged Hill, and their first regular season game is tomorrow at apple valley.

MV

Post by HOCKEY SCOUT »

While he was at M.V. the team improved greatly. They went from a 2 to 5 wins a year team to a 12-16 wins a year team. We scouted M.V. heavily during this time. His teams where disciplined and hard working. Overall I would say he did a great job in a tough environment. The new coach at M.V. is doing the best he can but he is finding it a little tough to make any headway. This program has always been rich in talent that usually leaves for "greener " pastures. A lot of people are now complaining about coach Shwartzbauer, saying he is a bad coach etc. These people need to layoff these guys and let them develop the program.

I think I would agree with what you have to say.

He is a good guy in a tough situation. I think a big thing is how do these kids (not the parents) take to his coaching approach. MV has potential be be a strong hockey program.

Did he get fired or did he just decide to leave MV for WB?

He was removed or forced to resign... however you wanna say it. Then he continued to get offers from WBL and AHA for assistant coaching spots

What caused him to be forced out? How did the players like playing for him?

I saw Irondale play earlier this year and they looked very poor. Not sure how they looked last night but my guess is MV should pound a team like this. A win is a win and good job to the MV boys.

A lot of the parents and kids didn't like playing for him. So they kept going to the school board and finally they gave in.

They have a committee working on making plans and upgrades to the shoreview Ice Palace. I know that last year they had blue prints of what the future arena would look like. I think construction starts this summer.

IIRC, in the late 60's/early 70's there were plans to build an arena on the grounds of MV, but voters turned down the ?bond issue? Anyway, really "no pride in the program??" They have produced some good hockey players. Not many schools have produced Gopher hockey coaches (Brad Buetow who I think still has the winningest record in modern Gopher history) or sent skaters to the "Miracle" (Rob McClanahan). How can there be no pride in the program?

Almost as tough of a loss as Mahtomedi losing to Totino-Grace in the last second of the football championship a few weeks ago.
