Are you serious right now! Buffalo got jobbed the entire game and one of their best players was knocked out early by one the cheapest players I've seen this year...#8. On the play your guy got a 10 minute (should have been booted) for fighting...he actually swung a couple times...Buffalo guy just stood there and got 2 minutes...Century fans sitting on our sidelines said refs were the same as night before and were terribly biased toward Mayo...Mayo was hitting high all night long...esp #8 and no calls were made as Buffalo guys getting mugged all night...I agree the refs were terrible and extremely biased...toward Mayo and not Buffalo.Spartanfan09 wrote:The refs for this game were so horrible...................

Denfeld
Drunkprofessor, you do know AL beat Denfeld? Being a Denfeld grad, that must shock you into a state of confusion. Your initial prediction was that Albert Lea CERTAINLY wouldn't get to the championship; you were wrong. I see from your past posts that you love ripping on teams that you never see play.

Alright, I'm going to be the one to man up and not take shots at somebody on the internet. All your childish comments are doing is making you look bad. You don't know Denfeld and you don't know me so quit while you're behind and move on. Didn't mean to make you butt hurt over your precious AL team. Oh and by the way, you were wrong too in case you didn't notice.jackstraw wrote:Drunkprofessor, you do know AL beat Denfeld? Being a Denfeld grad, that must shock you into a state of confusion. Ok I'm hear to clear up some confusion that there seems to be hear for the championship game.
We'll start with the refs. They were bad but not quite as bad as some of you are making them out to be. The second goal scored on Buffalo was a horrible call. #16 was skating backwards when he made a great defensive play which lead to both players sliding into the net but the mayo kid made no attempt to get out of the crease and prevented zitur from being able to make any kind of save. As for the last two goals on Mayo i have no idea. I was on the other side of the ice so i couldn't see if the puck was loose or not but their goalie didn't seem to happy with the call cause he chased the ref down so I'm going to guess he had control of it for some period of time.
The hit to Buffalo's #5 was just uncalled for. It was a shot to the head which gave him a concussion and prevented him from playing the rest of the game.
Also talking about when the Mayo kid got 10 and Buffalo got 2 min #2 from Buffalo did take a couple shots and he admitted to it. If you have ever watched a Buffalo game you know that #2 isn't going to sit in a corner and let somebody punch him he's usually the one down there getting in trouble.
If you have any other questions about the game feel free to ask I'll be glad to clear up any confusion you have.

The Century vs Mayo game had horrible refs. The refs were calling penalty's left and right on century. We were full strength for about 5 minutes of the game. Century players can't use that as to why they lost but being shorthanded most of the game and two key players getting ten minute penalty's defiantly does affect the game play. Century should have put away some goals but the refs were horrible and I don't know how anyone could disagree!

In the Post Bulletin it has Mayo with 9 penalties and Century with 10. To me it does not sound like the refs were one sided. The ten minute penalty Ordahl had for checking from behind was the right call. I was standing on the end and it was a clear check from behind. What was the other ten minute penalty for Century?

No need to clear things up for me...The refs for this game were horrible from every POV. I agree #2 asks for alot of the penalties he gets but he never swung...I was standing right there...the other kid took three swipes...#5 was flipped into the air by a stick after he walked the Mayo de-no call on that...On a positive note Buffalo controlled themselves much better the entire tournament and #3 didn't get a penalty all weekend...and scored the game tying goal...imagine that.
It was poetic justice Buffalo won this game...they deserved it. As for SpartanFan he is obviously grasping at straws...

I believe it was Martini, don't remember what for. They never announced the second one. And what was up with Faupel heading to the locker room with 5 min to play? Did he say something to the ref and get dished?Spartanfan1 wrote:In the Post Bulletin it has Mayo with 9 penalties and Century with 10. To me it does not sound like the refs were one sided. I refuse to blame the refs for Century's inability to score on their MANY opportunities. Not to mention Faupel's breakaway. Put the biscuit in the basket! Century also was playing VERY physical, they were bound to get called for that many, especially considering how sloppy they hit.

I'm just clearing things up for everyone since everyone seemed to have different views on what happened. Just so you know #2 admitted to fighting back so don't say he didn't cause i talk to him everyday and was in the lockerroom with him. With #5 i was on the other end of the ice and didn't have a real good look but from what i saw i thought i saw an elbow but i do agree with you that there should have been a penalty called. All i know is that he got undressed after the 1st and that he has a concussion.
Also it is amazing that #3 didn't get a penalty but after his game misconduct in Rogers that lead to him missing out on the FSN game against Clouquet i think he's decided he should call down a little bit.
And believe me I wanted Buffalo to win more than anyone after all i play for them.

Faupel got two ten minute misconducts....one for yapping after he got a penalty and another one for yapping some more when he was in the box.
The ref had him removed after the 2nd one.
Mayo's games against Century and Buffalo were physical - one because it is the cross-town rival game. In that one Mayo was up to the task and matched the intensity. In the final game, Buffalo was more physical and seem to take some of Mayo's players out of the game.
It was a good tournament with some good hockey in the AA and A portions.

My perspective of the Mayo/Buffalo game and the 'physical play' Other than what I would call cheap shots on Buff's #5 the game was not that physical...it was obvious to me that Buffalo was trying very hard to stay away from the penalty box. Buffalo normally will play very physical and much more so than that game but two of our bigger hitters #3 and #16 strayed away from the talking and simply played hockey...16 had a couple solid clean big hits that no doubt slowed Mayo forwards....Buffalo also had one of top defensemen sidelined for the game and beat Mayo without the services of #5 who creates a ton of plays...Buffalo kids played their best game of the season and hat's off to all of them as contributions were made by several and the word 'team' can describe their play.SEMinnHockeyNut wrote:Faupel got two ten minute misconducts....one for yapping after he got a penalty and another one for yapping some more when he was in the box.

With all the complaining about refs on this thread I would think that some of you will be signing up for the job for next season. MSHSL makes it very easy for you http://www.mshsl.org/mshsl/sofficials/newofficials.asp . Go on their website next fall and register. They have a 3 hour rules interpretation meeting and they give you a password to go take your open book test. There is no skating test so even some of you non-skating snowboot jockies would qualify. From what I understand they assign the newbies to be linesmen during their first year. The coaches and officials get to grade each other after every game. If you get decent grades then you get to be a ref as well as a linesman in future years. Coach's grades don't seem to effect whether they get to keep their jobs. I also think that the refs should start tossing coaches more frequently. Klingfus would be gone a lot. The Apple Valley coach complains all the time too. The guy with a lot of class is the I-Falls coach. Even when his team was stinking he stayed calm and I never heard him yelling at anyone.
An old coach told us that only when we credit the officials for winning us a game do we get to blame them for a loss. It's sort of like blaming a goalie for allowing a breakaway to score. At least 5 mistakes were committed before the shot was made.
Speaking of refs, did anyone see Mac get leveled on the faceoff during the I-Falls v Albert Lea game? Good thing he landed on his head or he would have been hurt
Sorry Mac, I couldn't resist. I don't think I've ever seen him get clocked like that even when he was playing. Is all OK?

You have to admit Dusso sucks. As for your getting leveled......you looked a little wooosy.
Any you are right, don't like the ref's there's plenty of job openings.

Thanks firecracker - you're very amusing today. Not only do I get emails and crap in the lobby - I have to get crap on a forum too? Laugh all you want but the Albert Lea kid got hurt so I don't think its too funny. If you think the job is so easy then follow your own advice and sign up. That game was my 8th in 4 days and I was getting pretty beat up but I had the fortune to work with 2 good refs so if any mistakes were made they were probably just mine. Also, just because you don't hear the coaches in the cheapseats does not mean they aren't working us over from the bench. The nastiest coach was not mentioned in your list either.Rocket78 wrote: Speaking of refs, did anyone see Mac get leveled on the faceoff during the I-Falls v Albert Lea game?
