Come'on boblee, you're slipping!

P.S. I was going to question your FL-CDH pick, but decided against it!

I knew/know that Forest Lake is very good. I had that Cretin feeling. Every now and then you gotta follow your gut and not your head. This was not one of those times.

You are hereby pardoned - this was officially an upset!

im just curious why teams in the same section are not required, or do not want to play each other at least once?.?

It seems odd to me that the first time you see your section opponent may be playoffs... or may be never during the season.

I think different coaches have their own opinions on this, just like they do on scheduling very good vs. easier opponents. Some like to use the non-conference games for building the team's confidence by establishing a great win/loss record, whereas other coaches want to schedule the toughest teams they can in order to prepare for the section playoffs. Likewise, some prefer to schedule the tougher section opponents to learn more about them for a possible playoff showdown, while others don't want the other section coaches to learn firsthand how to best match up with their lines, defend their systems, exploit their weaknesses, etc.

Great points, i agree totally. However, I think there should be a MSHSL rule that requires teams in a section to play each other at least once, it will make it easier when it comes to seeding to have a head-to-head method instead of a common opponent.

If there were to be such a rule, it would have to be sport-specific. It obviously couldn't work for football where, more often than not, there are more section opponents than open game dates needed to play them all.

i agree, but a sport like hockey with 25 games/year would work. that leaves enough games to schedule against hard or easy opponents, whether the coach is going for experience by hard games or record by easy games.

[quote="boblee"]Predictions:

Cloquet-4
Centennial-3

Was at this game last night. Cloquet had about a 2 to 1 edge on shots and outplayed Centennial for most of the game. Cloquet was up 2 to zip until just towards the end of the 3rd period then Cloquet took a penalty and Centennial finnally woke up. They tied the game with about a minute to go and won it in overtime.

Cloquet should have won this game.

Cloquet outshot Centennial 32-10. Centennial tied the game at 2 on a breakaway with 55 seconds left and won in OT. Third time this year CEC has blown a two goal lead and lost in OT.

Rapids

Post by northhockey »

Rapids seems to be running away with the section. Are they a lock to repeat, or are there teams that match up well against them?
Cloquet?
Forest Lake?
Duluth?
PHM?

All of these teams are playing tough schedules to get ready for Rapids...

Do they even need to hold a section 7AA tourney???
