Hill fans were talking big at section time last year when the Bears out played them for most of the game before losing on a late goal. I still say it was the curse of Lechner's hideous green Ronald McDonald sweater. If Colette plays like he did against Park this will be a blowout. They need a huge night from Owen if they want to pull the "mild" upset in this one.
Late Goal, all the scoring was in the first half of the game...
WBL never was able to generate much of anything in that section final. Maybe you are thinking of the regular season game that went into OT 0-0. That game ended on a late goal and WBL easily played as well as Hill in that one. I would say the section final was a bit of a bore with neither team playing all that well...

My bad on the time of Checka's second goal. For some reason I remember it being later in the game. Shots 30-12 WBL. I love unbiased game summary. The Bears were saved from total annihilation because Hill decided to play defense in the 3rd. Funny stuff.

Although they did out shoot Central, many of those were panic shots due to being behind in the score. If they had just calmed down and set up some beautiful passing plays, for a higher percentage chance of scoring (as was with their first goal), it would have definitely been a different outcome.
It was obvious to me that Hill Central "wanted it more" - and in many cases the advantage goes to the team with that desire. Hill Main wanted it more in the end but their effort was too little too late.
Hill Main Campus 5
Hill North Campus 2
That's actually pretty good!!! Took me a few read-throughs to get it lol
Anyways, I'll go with a high scoring game - something like 6-4 or 5-4 in favor of Hill. I'm not biased in anyway though...

That's a very good description of last years 3AA final.

Untrue, the game didn't even sell out last year...don't get me wrong, was full but there was lots of open space. This year I think there will be less people than last year, and it usually starts filling at about 7:15-30.
As for the game, I'm going to have to say that the sixth time does the charm for White Bear Lake...hopefully.
Collete was never known as a Pioneer hockey player when he was at Hill & his departure wasn't viewed as a major hit to the program. When a kid transfers from another program & plays at hill, it is usually an impact player who leaves a void (of some degree) at the other program. Colette is a solid goalie, but it didn't have a negative impact when he left Hill.
Collette never played hockey for the Pioneers... he really never spent much time at HM at all. He was there for a few months his freshman year... did not like it and left for White Bear.

Everyone knew that he was going to go to the HM for his freshman year and transfer back his sophomore because it's what his mom wanted him to do.

Owen chose to go to HM freshman year. Both of his parents are Hill Murray alumni and wanted him to give the school a chance. Bottom line is he was not happy with the school and wanted to go to White Bear. Why should anyone give him flak?

if someone from a public school tried it and went to a private school he would be an evil person for doing so? so it only works one way that it can be good but not the other. I see, good logic.
Nice night for the Pioneer faithful. They got to pay tribute to the 1983 undefeated state champions and also celebrate a win over White Bear. Hill's speed was the difference along with a solid performance from Flip. Hill struggled at times in their own end & did very little with their powerplay. However, they will get better. Great job boys!
WBL is sure stonewalled when it comes to playing Joe Phillippi. He upped his record against White Bear Lake to 5-0 with a Goals Against of 1.6. Not too shabby. He made some great saves while the game was still in question tonight, and then Hill skated to a comfortable 5-0 lead that caused both my brothers to leave early around the 10 minute mark of the 3rd. White Bear got 2 late goals that were mostly meaningless although they skated hard and played a decent game. I have no doubt White Bear will be a dangerous team come sections...
good job pioneers. great game. especially when you're on the glass
Hill came out strong with a goal in the first 20 seconds, then it was dissallowed, then we scored again about 10 seconds later. Couple of good breakaways. Very chippy game, but the bears dont seem to have anyone who can hit anymore. Good chanting going on also. Too bad lex stole our Tony V for mr hockey sign.
Second time I've seen the Pioneers in action this year, and I must say it was enjoyable to watch. It was evident from the start that H-M was ready to go and rolling offensively as they scored just half a minute into the game. I was impressed with the way the forwards moved the puck. The first and second lines seem to have the natural ability to score often while the third line does a nice job of keeping the opposition away from their own zone. The defense core did their job for the most part and Phillippi was solid as usual against WBL. As always certain aspects of the game could be improved, but I was still impressed with the speed and talent shown on the ice tonight. Also, I was glad to see both teams play a pretty fair game (not terrible chippy).

He is actually 6-0 with a 1.66 goals against average. He beat White Bear 3 times last year and twice as a sophomore

I also thought Hills speed was the difference, especially the top line. They killed the Bears in transition and had several odd man rushes they didn't convert on. Bears had several good shifts in the second period and had Hill on their heels, but another nuetral zone turnover became an odd man rush and it was 3-0.
I came away thinking that if team's defenseman attempt to to pinch & don't get the puck or play the man, they are in big trouble because of Hill's speed. HM needs to be better at taking advantage of those situations. I also came away thinking that Hill is better than WB, but not by a whole lot. I forsee a potential for a typical HM/WB classic section final. Finally, I absolutely love those black jerseys!
