What about next year? Too early to tell?

He's a good kid, this entire thing is too bad.

#9 Riley got out of surgery late on Saturday night. We bummed a ride from one of the Mound parents (thanks Kent) who stayed with us though the whole deal. We got home ~6:00 on Sunday morning, so Sunday was a rest up day for everybody. The surgeon at St. Mary’s was a super nice guy that has patched up lots of Bulldogs players. He has a Peewee A that plays in Duluth, and was flooding his rink when he got called in. Everything went well; he reattached two cut tendons and about one third of the Achilles got cut, plus somewhere about around 40 stitches. It could have been much worse. His skate came very close to cutting a major nerve and artery and cutting into the thicker portion of the Achilles. Good part is he should recover 100%. Bad part it won’t be for awhile. 6 weeks with no weight on it then ~4 weeks of therapy. That ends up being latter Feb. If everything goes well, might be wishfull thinking but who knows? We will be seeing a really good doctor in town who does stuff for the Vikings and Twins (thanks Steve for getting us in with this guy) We have some pain pills but Riley only had 2 yesterday, so he’s feeling pretty good. Emotionally he’s doing really well. (part of that is because he has been waited on for everything).
Just a freaky deal. I am very glad it wasn’t something that somebody else did…

I had dinner with #8 Bryant when he was released (~9:00 on Saturday). They gave him some medication but he was moving pretty slow. He had a tuff time getting in / out of the car and you could tell he was hurting. He got a ride home from yet another helpful parent (thanks Kelly) They got back ~1:00 on Sunday morning and received a speeding ticket on the way, a perfect ending to a perfect weekend. Yesterday Bryant had some major discomfort from multiple injuries--sprains to back and neck and an "unspecified head injury" He will find out more today from his physician. While he had a hard time sleeping during the night with a headache, it's his back that's really hurting today. Even with all this discomfort he’s joking about it.

Tons of support from teammates, coaches, parents and everyone in the hockey community. Thank you guys, it helps so much when you know people care. Greg, a special thank you for your "know how" and reassurance on the ice. We are very lucky to have you out there when our kids are hurt.

Hopefully he'll be able to recover 100% by next year. He's a fun player to watch.

Walking through my school today(Mound-Westonka) you could totally tell the hockey team was bummed out. They are a close team and losing Riley hurt them a lot.

Speaking with a few players they said they hope he's back by mid-late february so he can be placed on the Playoff roster before it's finalized. Mainly though, they care for his health and safe return to the game.

I'll keep you updated if I hear anything. So far, Riley hasn't been to school at all this week.
