I was at this game. Brovold is 1 of the best in the history of Bagley, IMO. Very good player and I wish him the best at WHA...mohunk wrote:An interesting side note--Park Rapids first varsity hockey game back in the day was against Bagley with the winning goal IIRC being scored by Bagley's Ben Brovold, who is now the coach at Walker-Hackensack-Akely, with their first varsity game having been against Park Rapids.
Moving to A's killed Park the first few years but it was the best thing that ever happened to the program(Credit Mike Hafner and Mike McMorrow). Some players and most parents hated it because they want to be competitive, but you have to pay the price in order to turn things around...Again, this is not a diss on Bagley people, it's simply the best analogy I know of... I would like nothing more to have Bagley turn things around. I still miss those outdoor games enclosed by all the big pine trees...newsguy35 wrote:Hopefully we can move to A's soon. I hear it is driving the varsity head coach nuts trying to adjust from Bantam B to HS for hte kids...

Bagley always has a good player or two just never very good teams. ben Brovold and his brother Jon were both very good players to come out of Bagley. Jon is still there with kids in the program. Ben will have Walker going in the right direction .schwang17 wrote:I was at this game. Brovold is 1 of the best in the history of Bagley, IMO. Mike Thorson, Bryantt Bolduc, Chris Fletcher and Dillon Spray. The problem with the team we have is there is such a steep drop from the good players to the less experienced. Hopefully we will play all 3 periods tonight and pick it up. We really havent been blown out of games this year, just havent played 3 full periods and with as few players as we have it is impossible to win without all 3 periods.State Champ 97 wrote:Bagley always has a good player or two just never very good teams. ben Brovold and his brother Jon were both very good players to come out of Bagley. All hockey communities have equilibriums or comfort zones. The only one who can shift that equilibrium is a visionary who can fix what ills that community before he is run out of town.
In my opinion a HS team can't win if the youth teams compete at the "B" level. But what you have to remember is some communities don't care, competing and enjoying some success at the youth levels far outweighs a HS section championship.
If you look at 8A, every community has something that prevents it from reaching its full potential, it's just some communities already have an equilibrium that breeds section titles.
In my lifetime I have only seen on community completely shift its equilibrium.

Unfortunately some "B" teams are unable to play "A" because the teams in the area will not play them. Way back when I was a part of a "B" team that used to beat up on all of the cities "B" teams but when the talk of becomming an "A" team came about none of the "A" teams wanted to travel north to play us. I believe that it is possible to have a good varsity team with only "B" level kids comming up, but a great team would be stretching it. As a group of "B" level kids comming up we were 1 goal away from state in high school 2 out of the 4 years playing Varsity.
And which direction did they take, forward or back?Irishmans Shanty wrote:All hockey communities have equilibriums or comfort zones. The only one who can shift that equilibrium is a visionary who can fix what ills that community before he is run out of town.

I'm not following you, can't play "A" because others won't play you?
Register as an "A" program and your in, right?
As a little Shanty
-Baudette played "A".
-RLF played "B"
-Bagley played "B"
-Hallock played "B"
-Park Rapids, well, their football team used to run a deadly counter reverse.
-Walker, they were using the ice to fish in those days
RLF fielded a decent HS team then and I think their years of competing at the "B" level really hurt them, truth be told, their numbers were equal to or better than ours were. Meanwhile, Baudette went to districts and took on the behemoth's.

At the youth level all district teams MUST play the other teams of the same level. The balance of the schedule may be difficult to fill, but things can be done to accomodate that process.greatone wrote:Unfortunately some "B" teams are unable to play "A" because the teams in the area will not play them. Several years ago all the girls teams in District 16 (essentially Section 8A) were made to play A level. This year 4 8A teams are ranked in the top 10 of single A, I believe.

Irishmans Shanty wrote:elliot you know this stuff, If a town decides to play "A" at the youth level, are they locked in for a duration of time or can they go up and down in the years they see fit.
They can change from year to year.
In D16, everyones first team is an A team. At the September meeting an association can request to play their first team at a lower level. Typically Red lake Falls, Bagley and Hallock make that request. This year Hallock stayed at the A level with their pee wee team.
We can change their level in that year but must do it by December 31. The earlier the better for scheduling purposes.
We can also allow a B level team to play against A level teams within the district (in D16 case we can also do that with D15) where appropriate.

We lost in OT because for some reason we changed all 4 pk'ers at the same time... Hopefully get them tomorrow.

Re: predictions
No excuses to be honest. We just couldnt put it in the net before the third period. We pounded them in every aspect of the game except our PP and goals... Shots were BFCG-33 MBA-30 but all of theirs were from the point or breakaways. Like I said, we played a great game, just gotta find a way to get the young guys to put a few in the net.schwang17 wrote:Alot of excuses out of the newsman...newsguy35 wrote:MBA-3SiouxRecruit wrote: Good Call!!

Hey Pat Sweeney sorry to burst your bubble, but it was all the PR people saying how much of a god Lehrke is and how Park is so great. Not people saying EGF is amazing or they are the best team in the state... And dont get me wrong but park did beat the wave last night, but if christanson would have been in net it would have never gone into OT and Park would have had a dissapointing ride home. Well take it or leave it those are just my two cents on things
