They are an city team that collects all of the senior, and sophomore cuts from highschools around St. Paul. Their A team has quite a few hill murrey kids and their B has AHA kids. They are a pretty good team.blainebengalhockey10 wrote:im a sophomore and thiis is my first year of JGOLD and i have never faced them

Wessy's Boys is named after a coach who died after falling and hitting his head on the ice and dying shortly after.
In my opinion, they shouldn't be allowed to play. Get those kids from their private schools to play for the city in which they live in. I guess they are too good for public or city funded things though. Second, this is nothing more than an all star. They are from multiple cities.
Why are they allowed to play?

Unless you are from the TC district you have to get a waiver to play for Wessey's Boys. The kids (parents) have to go the their local association and justify a waiver request. Not all associations have a Jr. Gold A team so the kids need to find another place to play and I give them credit for seeking out a solution and following through on it.
the Wessey's are not an allstar team; because these players come from private schools doesnt mean they are all stars.
they usually put together solid teams but that in my opinion is good for the league.
Country, what makes JRG-A and the Metro league as fun as it is; is having good teams to compete against.
My team will strugle some years and will compete well some years as most teams including the wessy's.
I would rather see more teams that are competitive than loose these teams, in fact if we loose teams it should be from the bottom going
to B from A if they are not ready for the compitition.

country, you clearly arent the brightest person to walk the earth. Just because they go to a private school and get cut, choose not to try out or whatever, they shouldnt be allowed to play? Why should anyone from E.P. or anywhere else get to play? You cant just deny kids an opportunity to play hockey after they go through a set back( being cut or whatever) its not right.

I am brilliantly brilliant. I am questioning why don't the kids play for the cities in which they live in? Is it because they don't like to mingle with the lesser class? If somebody can answer me why they can't play for their city, then I will understand this team.
Don't flame me for being puzzled as to why the kids can't play for their respective cities. Why doesn't Edina, Wayzata, Bloomington Jeff./Ken., EP, form a team for those that are cut from their Varsity teams? I just don't see why private schools get to form their own alliance team. See where I'm coming from? Should it matter if the kids go to a private or public school? It should matter where they live.
Whoever said the thing about competition,
I total agree. The Metro League and all of Junior Gold needs more competitive teams. I am not trying to say Wessys shouldn't be allowed because they are good. More competition=better league.
By the way NikeBauer, stay on topic. When I said "they shouldn't be allowed to play" I was referring to Wessy's Boys, not the individuals themselves. You are clearly the slow one. If you can read, I never stated anything about kids play opportunities. I was simply questioning WHERE they would play. Too many big words for ya?

Before you start calling them an "all-star" team and claiming a consipracy, I would: 1) Accept the fact that although these players may attend private schools; they may still live within the TC district (St. Paul/Minneapolis) and the goal for Wessy's (correct me if I'm wrong) was to give players in the TC district somewhere to play.....and 2) If a player from Edina or wherever else wanted to play for Wessy's they still need a waiver with valid reasons from their home association.

country can you stand to think that maby these kids just want to play hockey with the people they know best (the people they go to school with)? I also think that this shows how much depth a school like hm has in its highschool hockey program and proves good hockey players do not go there for the sole purpose of the sport.
Wes Barrette got kids predominantly from St Paul Johnson/Como/etc that had been cut fro high school. This was years ago. Thus 'Wes'ies boys.countrygentleman wrote:Wessy's Boys is named after a coach who died after falling and hitting his head on the ice and dying shortly after.

Ass tted earlier Wes died after a fall on the ice. (Wes did live a long and wonderful life and contributed hours to youthhockey. There is a junior gold scholarship named after him.)
But Wessy's boys evolved into taking kids from other districts with kids getting cut from private schools and 1) not having jr gold in their local association and 2) desire to play with their friends.
Although not an all-star team; they usually are very competitive.
Minnesota Hockey monitors the program based on the number of non-D1waivers being requested.
