St Cloud area tenders
What school in the area has the best goalies?
Rate in order between Cathedral, Apollo, Tech, Sartell and Sauk R
If you can, give the reason and the name of the tender.
Is it weaker or stronger than other sections of the state?

I don't know much about Sauk Rapids and Sartell other than they both graduated good goalies last year but I will tell you what I know about Tech, Apollo and Cathedral.mnhockey2009 wrote:What school in the area has the best goalies?

Apollo has the best goalie out of the three. Nate Hampton could not be much more solid. If he was a little bigger you might be hearing talk of him being one of the top tier goalies in the state. Very quick, always in the right position, great hockey knowledge.
Assuming that Cathedral starts Nick Meyers (sp?), they will have the second best goalie in St. Cloud. He played Bantam A's last year, but will not be as solid as Hess was for them last year. He has been a good tender all the way through the youth hockey ranks and there is no reason to think that high school will be any different. He might have a slow start to the season, but as he adjusts to the speed of the game he'll get it figured out. Cathedral also has Nate Hoefflin in the picture, he will be a junior this year, and has spent the last two years on JV for the Crusaders. He's not the best goalie but he knows how to play the position. If he can get quicker he could see a decent amount of varsity time.
Unless they are bringing someone up from youth hockey, or got a transfer student that I don't know about, Cole Reynolds will be starting for Tech this year. He is shaky at best. He had a couple very nice statistical games for the Tigers last year but looked rough doing it. Not the quickest goalie you will ever see and often finds himself scrambling to make plays because he is out of position.

Reynolds is not a millimeter ahead of any goalie in the area. He's two steps back from the next worst. Take the blinders off STC18. I used to have some respect for what you said.STC18 wrote:Don't know much about SR and Sartell but I'd have to go with Hampton from Apollo as the best, while Reynolds (Tech) is a step ahead of Hoefflin/Maiers (Cathedral).

im starting to think that STC18 is from techGeorge Blanda wrote:Reynolds is not a millimeter ahead of any goalie in the area. He's two steps back from the next worst. Take the blinders off STC18. Member of the STC Alliance since 2007.
Maiers is a good goaltender. Possibly the 2nd strongest in St. Cloud. But in no way is Hoeflin better in net than Reynolds.STC18 wrote:Maiers is better than Reynolds but I'm not so sure about Hoefflin, though he had a nice shutout against Sartell. And I'm beginning to think Coach Bus is from Apollo possibly?

The day that he gets a full ride to a D-1 college on a hockey scholarship is the day that River Lakes wins the state tournament.
