Nov 16-17: Minnesota-Twin Cities vs. Alaska-Anchorage
This weekend the up and coming University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Golden Gophers will play host to the University of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The Seawolves are coming off of a bye week and currently sit alone at the bottom of the WCHA Standings with only 2 points accumulated in 4 WCHA games played. On the season the Seawolves are 3-2-3 overall and 0-2-2 in the WCHA. The last time the Seawolves took to the ice was November 2-3 in St. Cloud, Minnesota when they lost and tied with the St. Cloud State University Huskies. So far this season Alaska-Anchorage is 0-1-1 away from their home rink.
The Golden Gophers are coming off of a weekend in which they finally claimed their first WCHA points of the season and climbed out of last place in the league all the way up to a tie for seventh with the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Last weekend in a home and home series with the Minnesota State University-Mankato Mavericks the Golden Gophers took all four points that were at stake by looking downright dominant at times. Can they continue their strong play and possibly even add more consistency this weekend at home against the Seawolves? The Golden Gophers enter the series at 6-4-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the WCHA. They are also 3-2-0 when playing in Mariucci Arena.

I wouldn't be surprised if you are right, just because it makes no sense at all.hockeyguy99 wrote:The Gophers will not sweep Anchorage. Don't ask my logic, it just wont happen!

I think the Golden Gophers are finally starting to realize some of their potential, as shown with the sweep over MSU-Mankato last weekend, but the question will be can they play at that level consistently enough to compete against the higher level teams of the WCHA. That being said, I don't think Alaska-Anchorage is quite at that higher level in the WCHA at this point and Minnesota-Twin Cities should have more than enough fire power to take both games of this series. I'm predicting a Minnesota-Twin Cities Sweep.
