How much does your kid skate?

I thought it would be fun for members to share how much their kid skates and what kind of skating it is.

Please state the age/level of the skater.

My mite's hours last month:
5 Skating Lessons
6 Open Skate
4 Open Hockey w/ Dad
15 Total

Of course, the hours will go way up when the outdoor ice is ready!

Age 5
Began skating in March

Summer was dedicated to improvement in hopes of playing league hockey in the fall.

1 hour clinic Sat and/or Mon
10 weeks of Sun Learn-to-Play clinic, hour each
Open skating if it was offered alongside aforementioned clinics

Average? 6-8 hours per week from Memorial Day through mid-August.

Fall season:
one hour practice on T
one hour game on S
2 hours per week

We don't have Mite Choice down here.

85 Hour association season.
20+ hours outdoor ice (last winter?)
35 hours developmental AAA End March through start of May.
composed of (1/2 practices) includes 2 tourneys.
No Hockey Mid May through end July Lacrosse season.
35 hours AAA again from End July to mid September includes 2 tourneys.

Dec-Feb (outdoor ice almost everynight if no Association practice and ice exists)
March to June (80hours plust three tournaments)
(July no hockey)
August (15 hours and 1 tournament)
April to July (55 travel baseball games plus practices)
June-August (Golf league twice a week; tennis once a week)
August-October (Football 4 times a week)
Sept-October (hockey once a week)

Yup. And she puts up with me playing golf with the boys...she's also not a bad cook. The house is a mess though...oh well, can't have it all.

well i have three boys squirt,peewee,and bantam they all skate about the same. ill do just one kid bantam 3 hours practice as a team a week. 2hours open hockey a night. weekends when there is no games it estimated on the low end id say 6 hours a day. so what do we have here. thats 25 hours a week 100 hours a month rink runs from 1 october to middle of april. so 650 total hours during association hockey.. not bad and the cost to me for all the ice time is 80.00 for bantam sign up. oh and thats all on indoor ice.. lol

Watchdog....any houses for sale up in the great white north? Can I get a job up there too? Even if you are exaggerating, you have a great environment for the development of the kids.

The 2 hours open hockey a night, is this open for Bantams or all levels? The six hours on weekend, is the rink open to the public and are pucks and sticks allowed during this time? Please elaborate.

golden bear, we have a rink in town that is open hockey 24 hours a day THEY NEVER LOCK THE DOORS.... on week days practices are on that rink from 5 to 7. so after 7 you can skate with a stick and puck until 5 the next night if you want. their are alot of houses for sale but a job could be alittle harder to come by but possible.. lol oh and i wasnt exaggerateing on my kids ice time at all if anything like i said i was under estimating. i dont know how many times throughout the winter my kids will be at the rink from 10 am to 8pm on a saturday and sunday. friday nights tell 11 or 12 in the morning. its open for all levels. all my kids play some tournaments in the summer along with some camps. they all play football,baseball and golf is free all day at the local course until 3 pm. it is a dream world around here.

Is the open rink the North Rink? What do they do about supervision or liability?

oldram- why dont you go up and supervise... other than that the adults that are at the rink watch out for the kids. how does that sound?

seventh crown. They beat Grand Rapids 5-1.
The Rams were also making their 31st tournament
appearance, which is another state record.

didn't see the end of your post - just up the road from my guess. They too from my understanding keep the rinks open.

Watchdog- I think it's great. When I asked about supervision or liability I was asking because they were always so anal about supervision. You couldn't even get at the weight room in the high school without going through 4 locked doors and having an adult. That's why we bought our own universal weight machine and put it in the locker room in the arena.

oldram - sorry i took you out of context. we have several in roseau that babysit their kid once a week at the rink than complain about everyone else that just drops their kids off. its pathetic what some people worry or complain about but ther sure happy when we have a good team to cheer on. the kid their babysitting once a week will later turn into the parent that complains because their kid dont get to play varsity. (not enough puck time.)

If a kid wants to skate 7 days a week let him, if a kid wants to skate 1 time a week let him, after all they are just kids.

oh i must have found one. id like to know at what time or point was i discussing how much a kid wants to skate? maybe you should read the whole thread before you open your mouth so you can actually contribute to the conversation. weather you agree with what i say or not i could careless but you could atleast be in the ball park with the subject matter.

OGEE - you need to understand up-nordt pidgin english - what watchdog is saying is there's hen-pecking parents that show up with their kid 1-day a week "supervising" instead of letting the kid's work things out for themselves.
