O-town Clown's 2007-08 HS Rankings Thread

Post by O-townClown »

Here goes... I will do my best to maintain the most accurate ranking of HS teams. It will be results-based, not subjective, since I will only see a few games all season.

Preseason rankings:

1. Roseau *8AA*
2. Edina *2AA*
3. Hill-Murray *4AA*
4. Holy Angels *2AA*
5. Centennial *5AA*
6. Duluth East *7AA*
7. Burnsville *2AA*
8. Moorhead *8AA*
9. Anoka *7AA*
10. Grand Rapids *7AA*
11. Eden Prairie *6AA*
12. Cloquet *7AA*
13. Benilde *6AA*
14. St. Thomas ^4A^
15. Duluth Marshall ^7A^
16. Wayzata *6AA*
17. Duluth Denfeld ^5A^
18. Minnetonka *6AA*

Please don't comment on how this team is missing or how that team should be ahead of the other one. There are tons of threads like that already. This list is gleaned from a blended consensus - far from unanimous - taken from a thread Elliot steered me to from the summer. It matters not where you start, it matters where you finish.

Like band practice, teams can 'move up' toward 1st chair by beating those ahead of them and will move down with losses. I'd do a computer ranking if I #1) had a formula like Sagarin or the Laz Index, and #2) knew I could get all scores. Instead, I'll monitor this from newspaper and internet accounts; the result should be just as good.

I will start other threads for each section and welcome your input there. By doing paired comparisons in each I will have a better understanding of what the early results are telling us.

It is November 1st and I'll do my best to continue this through the Sectionals. Four months at least. Along the way I'll offer odds, commentary, and humorous observations.

If I had any cred here the mods would sticky this. Perhaps that can be earned.

This is not a preseason ranking thread. This is the thread I'll use throughout the year.

My bad... I saw the words "preseason rankings" and assumed it was a preseason ranking thread, when in fact it's a thread in which you'll use the board as your own personal blog (whoever you are). I'll be sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for each entry all season long!

Some ego on this one... must be Catholic, right PB?!

Looks fine to me, but why only 18 teams?

20 seems like a good number or maybe like AP and do 25.

And there should be a St Paul team ranked, like the Governors. :D

Govs, lighten up, the guy is 1500 miles a way, transplanted MN hockey guy. This about as close to 'real' hockey he can get. :)

Elliott, the reason I started the threads for each section is to have a better handle on that next tier. The thread you directed me to last month gave me a list of 18 teams that repeatedly showed up on some Top 10 lists. In time this will build out to at least 25 of the 71 AA teams in Minnesota. I'm going to keep a master spreadsheet with all the results I can find.

18 is just a starting point.

We pretty much use MINNHOCK.COM (PS2) as our rankings page here O-Town. Its computerized and only biased towards Duluth East. Everyone else is pretty accurate. Lee does a pretty good job with it, and since he's an Admin on this board we're all kinda stuck using it. boblee last year did a running ranking here on what the posters thought weekly, but it really only told you how many posters from each school were here.

If you don't like Lee's, Mitch offers another ranking. He also has the power to ban you. Links are at the bottom of the page.

Looks far better than what I've seen from the AP, the newspaper, and the Stitch. Thx.

OTC, I know you are knew here, but ERE or Myself run a "bored" wide top 10 all season long. I am not sure if your personal top 20 is necessary, but good luck.

Personally, the PS2 is just fine for me. I don't need to see your weekly updates and feelings.

Whose is?

PS2 is good. PS3 is better but Lee is keeping it under wraps because it ranks the Hounds lower than PS2.

Wayzata will be lucky to win 10 games this year without Howe in net.

If i hadn't read all the other comments, I would've thought that OTC writes these pre-season posts annually.

this guy has some real control issues.

I thought O-town was in Florida. Even though he is a MN native I think just being in Florida would disqualify one from doing MN HS hockey rankings.

He is an Edina native and needs to feel privileged.

In the same vein of thought: Being in Minnesota would disqualify us from doing any college football rankings.

When (or if) D1 college football finally comes to MN we can re-address that point then?

He would be way of ahead of us since he would have the results an entire hour before we would :!:

Hey, what about PS3???

There are too many places for me to jump in with something witty. Or even half-witty. I'll refrain, for now. Image

Ah, not likely Govs.

If he were Catholic he would not have those pagan teams ranked 1&2.
