If you know the history of high school hockey you will come to realize that Warroad has been solid since open enrollment and Class A hockey. Before that they had some great individuals and a few very good teams. Those are the facts!

2 Runner-Ups prior to the 1970 and three straight appearances from 87 to 89. Seven section championships outright and 2 backdoor Section 3 appearances prior to the split. We haven't even discussed their success at the Class A tourney by far the premier program in that level. I think 95% or better of the schools in the state would take that. I get a kick out of the I Falls folks still living on history prior to 1970. When the tourney could be classified as an A tourney because the privates weren't involved. And then adding their Class A title to their total championships and touting their 7 championships and TRF holding up 50 plus year old championships. Sure WHS didn't win the "big one" but they made it to the finals before. How many total schools have gotten to the finals? I'm sure if asked the South St. Paul fans they'd take some of those numbers even though they made it to the tourney 20 plus times coming out of a creampuff section all those years. I'm curious carpenterguy why the axe your grinding against Warroad. There's been a lot of talk lately about the "Hockeytown USA" nickname. It isn't because of the HS team. It's from the Lakers, Olympians and the hockey stick factory in town. Should it still be called that; probably not. The Lakers are gone, the stick factory is all but gone and they haven't had an Olympic player since the Miracle. Warroad will make a run at the small school title again this year as this bunch of kids were the last Class A school playing as Bantams knocking off both Little Falls who lost studs and I Falls who lost their most superb goalie. They should beat most of their AA scheduled teams other than Roseau and should play them fairly close. So my advice is carpenterguy put your axe away and enjoy the upcoming season. Just curious and this isn't meant to be a dig; how's the team you like to watch going to fair this year, why don't you talk about them instead of trying to rain on everybody elses parade.

Warroad had "open enrollment" before open enrollment was recognized. More often then not, the choices just never worked out. 8)

Most definitely agree with you on the Roseau and Edina. But I' Falls - over time..not....like I said earlier.....ANCIENT HISTORY. The Bronco faithful have been trying to push their mid-60's success (no question they WERE successful) on everybody like it happened last week. Most of those guys that played on those teams are eligible for Social Security. And the guys that are toutin' them on here were between the ages of: twinkle in dad's eye, poopin' green or 13.

If I'm not mistaken I'Falls was very good up until the early 90's. It sounds to me like you have problems with the fact that they will go down in history as one of the best programs.

I Falls run in the 60's will probably never be matched they had a a nice string of Section titles in the early 70's, an appearance in 83 and one in 89. So I don't get the early 90's slant. No question the 60's run puts them in the upper echelon along with Eveleth, Jefferson and maybe Rapids but the Kings are still Edina and Roseau because of their number of titles and resilience. To me it's a matter of what have you done for me lately. Remember the last thing they did was in '95 and according to your views as well as our other I Falls apologist BIAFP that doesn't count anyway.

You sound pretty bitter!! I Falls was much better than Edina for many years so just because it was a long time ago doesn't take away their place in history. Again, Roseau, Edina, and I Falls are in a league of their own in regards to the history of high school hockey.

Don't see any bitterness just stating facts looks like you can't face the truth about your beloved Broncos in that they are YESTERDAY'S NEWS. I Falls hasn't won any titles since 1972 and from my point of view that's a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away. That was even before the privates got to play. Spare the Warroad has zero stuff cuz frankly if you really knew, I really don't have any interest.

Top Dogs...Roseau & Edina

Has-Beens...Eveleth & I Falls

5 Minutes ago...Jefferson

Never-Was...SSP, WBL & Warroad.

How's that?

History means all time! It's obvious you have a complex in regards to I.Falls.

No complex, they just haven't done much of anything in the past 35 years.

They have already cemented themselves in history! If my memory serves me right they have done plenty in the past 35 years including winning it all in 72 and losing a heartbreaker in 73. Moreover, they have sent a plethora of talent to the college and NHL level.

I. Falls hasn't won a title since 1972? Well I must say that I'm a little confused because I thought I saw them beat Totino-Grace 3-2 in 1995 on a slapper by Johnny Austin with around 40 seconds left, or doesn't that count to you because the Falls is in Class A and not AA?

I believe he was playing on BIAFP and Carpenter Guys rhetoric that the A title means nothing...and for the record, 1972 is more than 35 years ago when talking state tournaments...

anyway, this thread has turned pretty stupid. no one who knows their eye from their elbow will tell you I-falls is a better hockey town than Warroad...

Anybody who knows the history of high school hockey knows that I Falls has had way more success and produced a ton of college and pro talent.

Warroad no doubt has the upper hand from the early 90's until today. I Falls never had a losing season until the late 80's. From the beginning until the 90's I Falls in a landslide. I don't know why there is even a debate. The proof is in the record books, unless of course we have some people that are obsessive about trying to change history.

The three biggest programs all time are:

1. Roseau
2. Edina
3. I Falls

Carpenterguy you really don't know when someone has you hooked, do you. A good fisherman keeps tension on the line while he's reeling in his catch. I see you were caught and thrown back so many times in The Cafe Lee; had to close the lakes over there. Geez, your lip must be sore. Funny part is....you must be pretty small as everybody keeps throwing you back. :P

Oooooh, poor witto Roseau and ooooh, poor witto Warroad.

What does enrollment size have to do with success in hockey?

You can say they are playing where their enrollment says they should but because the correlation between enrollment size and success is tenative at best, you have said nothing. Did Burnsville win it last year?

How do you even measure success at Class A when all of the truely respected programs that are "A size" opt up.

When you win the Class A trophy, what have you won? Nothing but a year end tournament involving some nondescript group of teams based loosely on enrollment sort of that was formed because of politics.

If you want to have Class A fine, have it, but dont claim that your success in it makes you a respected program. A lot of people would take issue with that.

Respect come froms taking on the best. Not ducking into some little politically manufactured competitive level known as Class A and and then claiming to be just as good as AA.
