Back round checks

Post by greybeard58 »

With all of the questions being asked about the different AAA programs or different spring and summer leagues.
Have these coaches had back round checks done? If a coach or board member has been involved with a Mn Hockey association they have been checked. This question covers the others. A large number of organized programs including 4-H , Girl scouts and Boy scouts, soccer have this policy for participation, even then a few slip through. With the children one can not be to careful.
As an example quite a number of years ago there was a coach of a prominent youth baseball program that was found to have had serious issues with young boys. Last year as reported on the news a youth hockey coach sold drugs on a High school parking lot, that coach had passed is checks by Mn Hockey and the local TV also ran a check and it passed. There have been many others that have been reported.
I state again with the children we can not be to careful.

I have coached at both AAA hockey and Association. MN Hockey mandates background checks. I was never asked to provide background info at the AAA level.

Maybe different AAA organizations handle it differently than my experience. Regardless, you bring up a good point.

All background checks prove is that the individual hasn't been caught ...... if involved in anything.
