A record number of people in their late teens and early 20's probably voted, something that demographic usually doesn't do.packerboy wrote:

How in the Boof did that happen?
As long as we're talking politics, Al Gore losing Tennessee in 2000 to Bush. Everyone remembers the fiasco in FL but none of that would have mattered had Gore won his home state. Even Mondale took Minnesota in 1984.

The "Miracle" team of 1980 was coming off a number of impressive wins including a thrashing of the Czechs before it beat the Russians.
Nobody beat the USA at Lake Placid so it wasnt like the Russians were their only win.
Some of these "greatest upsets" are a creature of hype to some degree.

And speaking of politics, maybe Lee's favorite political party will nominate Hilary for President and she will win. Talk about being upset.
You may be right!!
Jesse's win Definitely came out of nowhwere.
How many political wins did he have before that?
Mayor of Brooklyn Center? Or was it Brooklyn Park?
The only downside to this one is that he was going up against less than stellar competition from any of the other parties.

The U invented swagger.
When referring to Ventura being elected Gov as being an upset the the Puckster wrote:

Well, I dont know Puckster. He beat Norm Coleman who has been elected one of our US Senators and Skip Humphrey whose last name is Humphrey and who had won a number of state wide elections.
Jesse shocked the world.
After which he was an embarassment.

I guess your right PB.
Hindsight is 20-20, but at the time, it was quite an upset.
Here's to hoping something like that never happens again.
