Choice Squirts, is that going to happen next year?

Isn't MM going to have their own Academy? It starts with Choice Mites...they have 100+ kids of the top 8 year olds...then it filters down to the say 60 Squirts...then 40 Pee Wees...then they hit high school together and eventually have 20-22 kids left from the original high school...having played together for 8-10 years...now are Seniors in high school...the question at this point over the 8-10 years...who do these guys play? Is going to be a glorified BEST EVER house league forever? Are they recognized to enter tourneys in MN? Do organizations let their Squirts play these Mites in exhibitions?

My guess is they play in the same league as the Wisc. Fire with a A (Machine) and a B (Deuce) type teams. MN Hockey will reject MM playing locally or anywhere in the state.

and we will be told that is none of our business to have an opinion regarding what other parents feel is right for their little Wayne. If they would rather pay big bucks for what they feel is superior hockey training for the future stars of MN rather than work and help their associaction programs get better that it is their choice, time, travel and their money .........and no one can tell them differently because it is their choice............errrrr I mean their child's choice.

Little secret...........It takes hard work and GENETICS to be a top player at the end of the road!

A SUPER 8 year old with tens of thousands of $ in training may never make his varsity team. Imagine the disappointment.

Can that happen? Sure! I talked to a basketball parent the other day. His kid was a phenom when he was younger. He was bigger than everyone else and used his size to his advantage. He worked on his skills but never grew beyond 8th grade. This youth phenom is a Jr. this year. He will struggle to make the varsity team let alone earn playing time.

The word for the day is: GENETICS 2nd two words is: WORK HARD 3rd, three words: Keep Hockey Fun............it's a game. Games are suppose to be fun.

Word is that the league has expanded to 8 teams and many of the additional kids are as young as 6. Sounds like what was once billed as a squirt A prep league is turning into a money hungry - one level association program with a lot of ice. I feel sorry for the kids that actually think the competition will equal that of a last year might program.

I not stunned by that revelation. Bernie has a big investment with his sheets of ice. He needs to generate revenue.

I don't know man, I guess from a perspective you have to wish BMcB good luck with his vision..and good luck to those little guys who give it a whirl...just have to wonder what the long term fallout is over the next 3-5 years. Time will tell. I neither am for or against this program..I'm neutral but question the long term run...

What does it matter if there's 8 teams or 20 teams. The main factor is the amount of ice time. Most people think parents are cruel for signing their kids to play this amount of hockey at this age.
Then they turn around and sign their kids up to play Spring and Fall hockey. After it's all said and done. All the kids are getting the same amount of ice time.

Do you guys ever question your local schools for seperating the kids into different Math and Reading classes?

I know one of you critical hockey know it all's actually just resigned from an advanced youth soccer league. In this league they had both rec and advanced teams. The better kids received more coaching and repetition. Why? Why not place all the 7-8 year olds in the same league? I actually like the idea of placing the kids to their ability. Not age.
Then I find out that some people associated with this league actually received money for their services. Talk about stepping up and volunteering to serve their community.

Truth to the matter. All kids learn at a different pace. I agree little Jimmy could be a terrible hockey player until he gets to be 8th grade. Then succeed the rest of his hockey career. That's great! I also see some kids excel all the way through. ALL KIDS ARE DIFFERENT!

Are you going to be upset if little Jimmy wants to be in an advance Math or Reading class?

Are you going to be upset that they even offer advance classes for 7-8 year old kids?

Personally I don't lose sleep over it.

I wish Bernie good luck as well. He is a visionary and entreprenuer. That is what America was made from.

No offense, your observation of association hockey is not accurate............sorry. If it is in your association, you seem like a proactive person.......help fix it. If you don't like it............go away. The Wisconsin Fire is just over the river.

2nd, I would look at Bernie's deal as a supplement. His classes, etc can and are used in addition to association hockey. Frankly, it's good to get trained by different people along the path. There are a lot of good things youngsters and adults can gain from others experiences. It's like pieces to a puzzle.

I bet all those kids cant wait to spend 100 hours on the ice and another 100 in the car this winter. The reward if they work hard is another 200 hours in the summer. Sounds fun.

I called Minnesota Made today and ask to talk the Bernie. He was not in. He is out in Lake Placid watching his son trying out for the World Jr. team. I ask how many of his 88s were out there she said only 5, because Peter Mueller and Eric Johnson did not go this year because have already signed their pro contracts.

I ask her about the league she gave me some general info, when I ask her about the ages of the players, she did not know so she transfered me to another guy in the the office. Here is the info he gave me.


I ask how many kids in the league. He said 128, 8 teams 16 kids each.

He said that there were no players born in the late half of '00 kids with 3 years of mite left.

9 players were born in the early half of '00
14 players born in the late half of '99
both of these levels have two years of mites left, this year and next.

38 players born in the early half of '99
67 players born in the late half of '98
So, 105 of the players in the league are in their final year of mites.

He also said that they had 215 kids skate in three different tryout, and about 60 more registration have come in the since they have closed out the league and are getting 7 to 10 calls a day about the league.

He said they had a lot more responce than they thought they would, most likely because it's alot of ice for $8 an hour.

When I asked him about Squirts next year he said Bernie hasn't talked about it.

Are you telling me that 300 + Mite aged kids want to skate at MM? Not to mention they have an additional 7-10 calls per day?

It makes you wonder why so many kids want to skate with MM versus their local associations?



Fine print: To all you hockey know it all's. By no means am I trying to take a stab at my local association. Facts are facts. There's a reason why the Mite parents and kids are choosing to skate with MM. We currently have 12 kids from our association skating at MM this year. I respect all the people that volunteer in our association. Anyone who volunteer's to help develop the kids deserves all the respect in the world. These volunteer's are great! Thank you!


There is no doubt that the local associations will take notice.
