Flaherty Leaving Duluth East

Post by Duluth East Hockey Fan »

Just heard that Keegan Flaherty has informed Duluth East Coach Mike Randolph that he will be leaving the Hounds his senior year to play at Green Bay in the USHL next season.

Thoughts????

This list is only about half of the HS kids that likely have an opportunity of playing in the USHL instead...

Brady Hjelle - International Falls
Taylor Johnson - White Bear Lake
Keegan Flaherty - Duluth East
Jake Youso - International Falls
Joe Arbour - Duluth East
Aaron Crandall - STA
Jake Johnson - Duluth Denfield
Seth Helgeson - Faribault
Matt Leer - Edina
Anthony Raiola - Minnetonka
Hakan Yumusaklar - Lakeville South
Bryce Ravendalen - Warroad
Nick Oliver - Roseau
Anthony DeCenzo - Hibbing
Jared Festler - Little Falls
Jake Hansen - White Bear Lake

Some of the other USHL teams have yet to post their "Tryout Camp All-Star Team" rosters. Of course, being on this list doesn't gaurantee they'll get invited to join the team. But if they do, that's when they'll have a decision to make.

Anybody have the exact number of how many MSHSL kids left to play in the USHL (or even NAHL) last year?

There are only a few that I can recall but I'm guessing there were more than these:

Tyler Thompson (BSM/USHL)
Kent Patterson (Blake/USHL)
Ben Arndt (North St. Paul/USHL)
Josh Turnbull (Duluth East/USHL)
Tom Kleidon (WBL/NAHL)
Joe Hartman (St. Cloud Apollo/NAHL)

It sounds like there could definitely more of an influx this year. It will be interesting to see/hear what impact it will have on high school hockey.

Keegan started as a ninth grader for the hounds. Maybe he feels three years is enough and is looking for a new development route.

Not sure junior is the right answer if you are a high school kid. High school should be the greatest time of your life.............followed by college. Keegan is good enough to get there the old fashion way.

That being noted..............good luck if he heads that direction.

Keegan seemed to struggle last year, not a big goal output. Giving
up alot to go to an ok team like green bay. Rand can't be happy losing
Turnbull the year before and now flaherty.

Keegan is a nice power forward type of player. He needs a playmaker with him to enhance his game. Did he get that kind of support last year?

Mike's used to it:

1998: Patrick Finnegan
1999: Jon Hedberg
2000: Tom Sawatske
2001: Zach Fitzgerald
2005: Cade Fairchild
2006: Josh Turnbull

All would have been the top player (at their position) on the Hounds' squad the following season, had they stayed.

It's life.

luck to him in the USHL. HE will go far I'm sure.

east hockey, i hate to see Mike losing another kid but that is the way it goes in today's hockey. Mike has done a great job over the years and does give up a lot of his time to the program. Losing Flaherty is a big loss for next season.

Keegan to Green Bay

Post by hockey59 »

Good luck to Keegan...he is an excellent hockey player and will do well in Green Bay!

Green Bay his some quality players coming in 2007. Jake Youso plans playing for Green Bay before and after the high school season. John O'Neill plans on playing Elite League in the Fall and possibly joining Green Bay after the high school season.

Any of these guys regret their decision to forgo their senior year in HS to play juniors?

Maybe Ben Arnt? Does his appearance at Model Camp suggest he might return to NSP for his senior year? I haven't heard if he attended the Omaha tryout camp last week. Has anybody talked to Ben about a possible return?

Why would Ben Arnt want to play high school hockey in Minnesota again? If he did, he wouldn't be eligible anyways since he attended school in Nebraska last year.

I could think of a few reason's why he'd want to, but I guess I hadn't considered the "transfer rules" part of it. Are you 100% sure that the new rules wouldn't allow him to play? I'm guessing his "permanant address" is still North St. Paul.

Well pretty much everyone I know from Duluth East thinks that they are so dang great that they probably won't even miss him. Tough to miss someone when you are too busy looking at your self in the mirror!
